This was taken from Hellcat on another MB about the Clayface eppy.

Just finished watching the newest episode and decided to stop lurking and post. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif Seriously, this show makes me sad, I see a lot of wasted potential, yet I continue to watch holding onto a shred of hope that it will get better…. yeah, it’s the crazy logic of one fan girl.

So just as a warning: spoilers!!

Here’s the really brief summary:

Joker’s latest plot device creates Clayface.

And here’s the long as hell summary:

The episode begins with the Joker robbing a bank…with the aid of yet another unexplained chemical concoction. (At first I thought it may be acid, but alas all hopes were dashed.) Apparently this concoction can do something different every time it’s used. It can make things rubbery, can make things malleable, and can stick guards to walls. Whatever. To make his escape the Joker sprays his van and henchmen’s feet (!) and they bounce away. (Made me think of Gummi Bears.)

Back at the GCPD headquarters, Chief Rojas is pissed that Batman is apprehending criminals instead of the cops. Bennett suggests that they work with the vigilante, and is promptly shot down by Rojas (Who continues to act like an ass through the rest of the episode.) Elsewhere, Bruce is contemplating revealing his secret identity to Bennett. They meet, have coffee, and just as Bruce is about to let the cat out of the bag, Bennett gets called away by Yin.

The Joker is using his (sigh) “Joker Putty” (that’s what he calls it people) to desecrate a statue’s face. Batman and Bennett arrive on the scene, and Ethan attempts to apprehend Batman (much to the Joker’s chagrin). Anyhoo, Joker gets away, Bennett nearly falls off the high scaffolding, Batman saves him…and once again Bennett gets chewed out by Rojas. Yadda yadda yadda.

Joker continues his robberies at an art gallery, and winds up abducting Bennett. Seems the Clown Prince of Crime has plans for the detective. He’s going to drive Bennett insane…using a spinning…thing. At this point in the show I was going insane. Guess that spinning thing works in some sick demented way on Batman fans.

At one point the episode actually has a good moment. They show a flashback of the Joker, as he suffers his ill-fated chemical vat accident. He mentions how all it takes is was one “really bad day” for someone to snap, and all I could think of was the Killing Joke. Then the good moment was over…. shock set in, and anger…can’t forget the anger. The Killing Joke being vaguely referenced on “the Batman”…the horror.

Yin arrives on the scene and Joker is about to use the (sigh) “Joker Putty” on Bennett (he doesn’t know what it does to humans, though earlier he plastered a guard to a wall) Anyway, Batman arrives on the scene, knocks Joker’s chemical gun out of his hand and the chase ensues. Bennett gets a whiff of the spilled chemicals. That’s all, doesn’t even touch the *******ed stuff, and starts coughing up a lung. Batman catches Joker, the other cops arrive, and Bennett's acting strangely.

Later that night, in his apartment the detective, who seems to be terribly sick, looks at his reflection in the mirror, touches his face, and is shocked to see that spot is malleable like clay. His whole face begins to melt and that’s the end of part one.

Looks like you guys were right with all your speculations. Damn you all!

Can't believe I slept through this episode (any new DCAU eps are better than none), but I suspected Joker's involvement the moment I read the title...and I was right. And we were right about Bennett too.

The Bennett transformation scene sounds pretty good from reading it. Hope Bennett's transformation is -permanant- guess we'll find out next week.

Doesn't this air again on Teletoon sometime over the week?

When I first read this, I thought that s/he meant that it played on Saturday, which I got confused about cause "The Big Dummy" played. But then I realized that it probably played on Teletoon.
Yeah, I need to get that channel.

I certainly hope so. That's my only chance to get a copy of these shows.

I went through Jam Showbiz! (http://jam.canoe.ca) to get the TV listings.

"The Rubberface of Comedy" will rerun January 14th at 3:30pm (ET)

Then the second part "Clayface of Tragedy" will air January 15th at 11am (ET).

The first episode of The Batman will then air on January 16th.

Fortunately, I did manage to tape this on Teletoon this morning - and you know what? The episode isn't bad. The Joker is passable and his scheme is intriguing and semi-realistic (unlike his previous two appearances), and Batman's self-doubts and the fact we see some actual drama from the GCPD makes the episode deeper than most.

This episode is proof that this show also has a chance to still be good.

PS - During the episode I saw a promo of what I think will be a new episode next season, featuring the Penguin and Catwoman in the same episode. (I've yet to see "Clayface of Tragedy" and "Q&A", but unless they appear together in either of these episodes, it's a new one for next year.)

I doubt Bennett's transformation will be permanate. I would love for it to be but I don't expect The Batman to do something that has lasting consequences. Of course if they do there might be hope for this series after all. However I have my doubts.
