View Full Version : Oliver and Company has ruined my life.

The other day, I decided to watch Oliver And Company. The introduction to the movie (which consists of kittens being given away) has, for some reason, depressed me beyond belief.
Though this IS coming from a cat lover, I think that this scene may be the most depressing thing ever animated. Just the way Oliver reaches out for help and all that. I remember it making me cry as a little kid, and it almost did the same when I watched it.
Anybody agree?

It kind of phased me a little when I was small. Not now though. But I do remember being kind of mad when Oliver decided to live with Jenny and abandon his old gang.

I havent seen Oliver and Company... but I dont like the sound of it now! Humans can die or get hurt in a film, and I might cry a bit when watching it, cos I'm sappy like that, but it doesnt get me depressed after. A puppy sneezes and I'm upset for ages.
I'm going through what you are going through - watched the Wicker Man and found out some animals actually died in filming when the wicker man was burning :|

I won't watch that movie because, I know I will ball my eyes out. I am a huge cat person.

Ah, I too, remember being extremely depressed by that scene. In fact, the movie in general was a real downer for me...

You guys can't take the heat when Disney dishes it. I liked the fact the movie had a gritty urban setting and wasn't all smiles.

Because of the songs, I could say that Oliver and Company wasn't too depressing to me. When everything went wrong you could depend on a song to bring you back into at least a little happiness.
The Fox and the Hound, on the other hand, I didn't find too happy at all. The hunter trying to shoot poor innocent Todd!

It wasn't that I "couldn't take the heat". I actually happen to applaud Disney when they take a darker route. I just found Oliver and Company to be a none-too-enjoyable film all around.

I didn't like this film, either. It was a downer for me. Probably one of the few Disney films I'll never purchase.

I love Fox and the Hound just because it's a bit somber, but that's just me. ;)
I never got to see Oliver & Co. as a kid (I was treated to Roger Rabbit instead), so I lack the nostalgia factor that might have made me a bigger fan of it now. Not that I don't like it now, it's just that it's sort of a weird experience to watch it as an adult after wanting to see it so badly as a kid. I used to listen to the soundtrack endlessly when I was twelve and vivdly imagined what the film was gonna be like. I kinda set myself up for a disappointment. I mean, I think it's still a good film but it's not quite what I pictured.
I do clearly remember the part of the trailer that showed Oliver being swept across the screen in the rain, and knowing that he had been abandoned like that really drew me in.
Aw, poor kitty. . .
