Man a very busy month for the history of comics. Nice interesting tidbits there, I hadn't realized that Superman died in January.. That whole arc was a great read, I'm glad that it wasn't permanent because none were near any stature to take over for big blue.. Although it did create Superboy, who's been built up decently the past decade.. So good stuff comes to those that wait I guess. :)

Also didn't know that Jay Garrick had made his debut in January. Will Eisner dying =(, which was just a shock. Alex Ross being born, same with John Romita Sr. and Geoff Johns and Frank Miller. That's just a very talented group that was born in January. I guess there are so many talented creators these days that it shouldn't be any surprise if they were born in the same month.

Howdy,

Technically, I think the actual issue (Superman #75, if I remember right) came out in November or December. The only reason I remember this is because I bought the issue while I was in grad school. I bought it from my local comic shop and brought it to class along with the rest of my haul for the week (frankly, the comics were a better use of my time than the lecture). When a few of the other guys found out that the issue was on the stands, they left to get copies of their own and came back in about an hour later in the middle of class.

At least we had our priorities straight.

In any event, the date on the cover is January, which is the one I use for DoCP. I suspect Jay Garrick was actually on comic stands before January, but I doubt there are that many people left around who remember when it was actually on stands.

Howdy,

Boy, doing these gets a lot easier when you have last year's post to work with ;).

New additions this time around are the passing of Jackie Ormes on Jan 2, 1986; the debut of Friday Foster on Jan 16, 1970; the birth of Paul Deliège, creator of Bobo (and who passed away in July last year); and the passing of Daniel Branca on Jan 28, 2005.
