Too Many Reruns of Too Few Shows
I've found a very interesting topic of conversation in an DBS tv board that i like to share and open up for discussion

I started thinking about an opinion expressed by SamC in another thread, about more rerun channels than there is material to support them, and I began to think maybe it's more like too many reruns of too few shows.

So I did a search on my DTivo (TC w/locals) of some randomly selected shows that I know are in syndicated reruns, and came up with this list for a 1-week period. The list has the name of the show along with how many times it airs during the 1-week period. It includes my local stations and East & West feeds where applicable along with duplicate showings of the same episode.

Roseanne - 96
Full House - 84
Fresh Prince of BelAir - 82
The Cosby Show - 59
Cheers - 51
M*A*S*H - 36
Walker, Texas Ranger - 25
The X-Files - 23
Seinfeld - 21
Bonanza - 19
Gunsmoke - 17
The Andy Griffith Show - 15
I Love Lucy - 5

I think all of the shows with totals over 50 air on at least one of my local stations, and most of those are also on Nick at Nite East/West, which really runs up the total. I can think of dozens of series that were produced for several seasons that are nowhere to be found, yet we keep getting treated to multiple reruns of reruns on multiple channels. I wish the programmers would give us fewer reruns of more shows!
and in that same thread this guy pretty much sums it up per se

We are getting watered down television today anyway . They want you to buy the dvd of the shows now so they pull them off the air for a while . And with Reality TV all over the place my family is watching less and less tv.
ok talk away please

i think the problem is that many of the programers are a bunch of dumbases IMO, don't get me wrong i like the fresh prince, full house and walker, but do they have to show like 10 times a day,i mean that air space can be used for shows like the A-team,knight rider, dukes of hazzard, diff'rent Strokes to name a few and the why i hate the big media giants owning multiple sations and cable nets so they can show last week's episode of some ****** reality show, and dumping the classics to their sister station which is not carried on our cable or satelllite station, that what im having to deal whit here in Nashville,i think sinclar broadcasting owns the Fox,UPN,and WB affiliates and you see a lot a program sharing,in other words for example acording my listings Jerry Springer airs @ 12pm on the WB station and 3 hrs later @ 3pm the same program is showing on the UPN station, another case in point Will and Grace airs @ 9:30 pm on the WB station and again @ 11:30 on the Fox station,ok i really had to get that out

I like some of the shows on that list (SEINFELD, WALKER, CHEERS, ROSEANNE, LUCY), but I also realized awhile back how it seems like so many of the same shows are playing on so many channels. I mean one day I literally saw an episode of RAYMOND on TBS, then turned over to Fox, and another episode was on at the same time. As much as I like a lot of those shows, I wish some of them wouldn't repeat so much so that room could be made for other shows to get a spot in reruns. At this rate, it seems like in a few years, all reruns with be the same five shows on every channel.
