Hi ... I'm just trying to keep my head from swimming whenever I try to make any sense out of this current Spectre/Not the Spectre storyline.

Most of what I've been able to follow comes from the recent JSA arc about Hal Jordan as a Fallen Angel or some such, out of touch with his powers for a brief time (by choice?) before he came roaring back to start swallowing bodies and souls again. Both the JSA and JLA (as represented by Batman in a cameo at arc's end) then evidently resolved to get Hal wiped out of all existence if they could do so, or at least get him back onto a short leash.

Or something like that.

After which, Hal is now about to resume his humanity and GL mantle (once the Spectre's swallowed 5,000 gallons of cosmic mouthwash to sweep away all that supernatural aftertaste), as though nothing happened?

This is Example One of why some people give fiction writers the fish-eye when they're introduced at parties.

Anyway, could someone kindly help me out with a (mercifully) brief summary of how this mess got as far along as it did story-wise, or at least point me to some Internet site that'll serve to clear it up in non-headache-causing terms?

Much obliged.

Howdy,

Extremely short version: Hal was Green Lantern. Then he went crazy and killed a city. Then he killed himself restarting the Sun as atonement, whereupon he became the new Spectre, replacing Jim Corrigan (who I suppose got his long-deserved final resting place). Now Hal's back and Green Lantern again.

Much longer version with annotations: Emeralddawn.com has a big page summarizing all the high points (http://www.emeralddawn.com/news/history.htm) with issue number references. Whether it's headache-inducing is up to you, but given your goal, I'm not sure you're going to avoid one...:).

And thank you kindly for that, E.L.! :D

(Whether it might be possible to view any of those most recent developments as "high points" is another thread and for another day entirely.)
