Since 1999, Universal Studios had been plotting to adapt the increasingly popular comic strip Zits (by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman) to a full-length live-action feature. Zits is about a teenager, currently about to turn 18, who goes through life like most other teenagers do: being cynical, rebelling against parents, and the cliché but never untrue rock music binges and spring break.

SPRING BREAAAAAAAAAAK! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

..ahem.

Though details are still vague on the movie, some news on the production are finally beginning to surface.

Hollywood Reporter reported that Shawn Levy will be directing the film. Shawn Levy is already knee-deep in adolescent programming, directing shows like Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson, and having just finished a film with Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), Big Fat Liar.

Universal Pictures will indeed be running the show, and is currently dealing with hiring some new writers that will help Levy to rewrite the script, which was written by Paul Feig, creator of Freaks and Geeks.

Shady Acres and Marc Platt Productions (Josie and the Pussycats) will be producing the film. There is no other detail about the movie at this time, but we will let you know if any should arise.
