Why does J'onn J'onzz keep his "half Martian, half human" form? Is it because it makes others more comfortable around him, or is it in order to make himself more comfortable?
In the JLA comic book it was established that he could physically alter the shape of his brain. Perhaps he adopts a human shaped brain in order to make the thoughts of humans more tolerable (picking up "alien" thoughts could be uncomfortable to a Martian telepath). The body shape just completes the package.

I know in the comics he chose that half human /martian form because humans except physically simular beings better and it is a form he can maintain for long periods of time. He cannot maintain a completly human form for a very long time.

I thoight he did it so he wouldn't make the other members uncomfortable. That and he can assume it for long periods of time. But he's taken so many other forms. He was a detective, Bloodwynd, plus his alien form and "JLA" form.

I also think that it was the creator's idea to do so, to make us feel better about him... If you see something way out of the ordinary in figure, like teh alien invaders, then teh viewers would know to hate them.. so this is the case for Johnn's I guess.

I just found evidence that J'onn had used that form in the first place. When he first met Batman, he felt the sense that Batman didn't trust him very much. So he then took a shape closer to a human form for Batman... So it IS to make the other JL members comfortable. Cased Closed.

But, y'know, he doesn't actually look that human--with the pronounced brow and "creepy" eyes. I just thought that there could be another explanation.

It's been said many times in the comics that he takes that form so people feel a tad more comfortable around him. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's easier for people to accept than his true Martian form.

He takes the form as a cross between his new ties to humanity and his Martian heritage. I think his blue trunks and boots are supposed to be a kind of "Look...I'm Superman!" type "joke".
