With the release of the Catwoman Vol.2 #1 less than a week away, anticipation is rising. The comic was DC's 3rd highest selling title of the month, beating the regular Batman and Superman titles. But according to an interview at Wizard World, this book started out as a challenge by Ed Brubaker.

"I told Bendis, ‘Okay, I’m going to give you a run for your money," said Brubaker. "We’re going to see who does the best crime/superhero book on the market."

"I decided she’s the hero for the people who live on the wrong side of the law," Brubaker explained. "The first storyline has to do with hookers who are getting murdered. The cops don’t care and it’s not the top thing on Batman’s list, but she knows that these are not necessarily bad people. She decides to start sticking up for people like that."

One thing's for sure, this will be nothing like the acclaimed Duffy/Balent run that kick started the original Catwoman title. For the complete interview, click HERE.
