Gerald Butler.

Oh lordy lord lord.

Folks, I am the biggest Phantom of the Opera fan you can meet. Honestly. It's part of my DNA for pete's sake. And I promised myself I'd give the film a fighting chance. Sure, it's not starring who I'd want it to, and it's not being directed by someone I trust, but if I don't hype myself up or down about it, I'll be fine, right? I can go in there and judge it for what it is, and not for the promotions or the names attached to it.

But in my head, I started judging whether I wanted to or not. So to counteract it all, I then had to start counter-judging, until it was a day-by-day verdict. Moment to moment I felt like I could love it, or hate it. This has been going on since last January, when shooting started. And this morning just happened to be a "loving it" morning.

:(

So I went to the Phantom website and read up on the release dates and soundtrack. And then...I listened to clips of the soundtrack. I didn't mean to, they just popped up! And that's when I heard it...

...Gerald Butler.

Singing Phantom.

Like a lawn mower.

Oh god...I'm going to start making comparisons! If I start doing that, I'm going to end up hating this! HELP HELP HELP! I'm not stable right now and I need some help!

My girlfriend wants to see it, but I don't for 2 reasons:

1. It is a musical

and most importantly

2. Joel Schumacher

The Phantom will be wearing a costume with plastic nipples?

maybe he can drive a car that goes up the sides of buildings too....

Well, I'm certainly calmer now, but the reviews online seem to suggest that this picture is either destined for Academy Award Glory or abysmal failure. Maybe even both. The worst Joey Schumaker film since Batman + Robin? A far better film musical than either Moulin Rouge or Chicago?

I don't know what to think. I guess I'll have to wait until the curtain comes up.

Anyone else actually concerned with the outcome of this film?
