I just read this news item (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12803). Starting Sunday, Jan. 6, CN will be running a late night block of classic Hanna-Barbera shows after Adult Swim and the Popeye Show starting at 1:30am (with showings of Yogi, Huckleberry, Wacky Races, Quick Draw, Top Cat, Ruff and Reddy, and Atom Ant). It looks like LNB&W is gone. :(

No spit. This of course means "so much for waiting in vain for Bosko and Buddy".
Now Bosko and Buddy are truly dead at CN.

Maybe LNB&W will be moved to another night. Maybe it'll be on Friday or Saturday night.

This would be a big loss for CN and most important, their viewers...LNB&W has been my favorite show on CN for the last few years, and I find it hard to believe that this show will be taken off CN's roster.

Sounds like CN is trying another tactic to promote its Boomerange channel, in hopes that people watching the earlier shows will stay around and watch (or tape) the overnight stuff and then call their cable operator and demand the new channel.
That's what they may think, but IMHO, they're misreading their target audience. If it's trne LNB&W is being taken off permanaently and not being shifted to some other night (early Sunday from 1-2 a.m. would be appropriate), I think a flood of e-mails might help CN see the error of their ways in weekend overnight programming.

Who else thinks there's an agenda to this? Think about it. Turner's gone, Cohen's gone, now Kellner's in charge. Now, someone like that under new management might have the "Black and White=OLD" mentality, and may be trying to phase out the black and white. Why else would they place the Popeye Show in the middle of the dang night? (oh well, I have tapes.)

No need to worry, gang. I have good news...
I just checked CN's online schedule and it looks like they are moving LNB&W to late Saturday/early Sunday at 2am-3am. The change starts Dec. 1 (according to the website).

Missed on my guess by one hour. Oh well...
BTW -- are they going to push the Acme Hour rerun of Saturday's show back to 3-5 a.m. on Sunday, or just eliminate it entirely?

They are eliminating the Acme Hour repeat. After LNB&W will be Droopy followed by an hour of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

That's exactly what I feel. I was excited to see the return of the H-B classics to the schedule, but not at the cost of Late Nite. Now that it's clear Late Nite is back, we should all praise CN for putting Yogi, Huckleberry, T.C., Dasterdly, Muttley, Ruff, Reddy, and all the gang back on each week. Whether or not this is a marketing ploy for Boomerang, this is good news indeed.
Which leads me to a question: Is there anyone hear who doesn't have a satellite dish and gets Boomerang? I don't know if any cable companies are adding it....

As it turns out, this is actually an expansion of CN's 'original' programming -- that is, the Hanna-Barbera block early Monday morning is basically replacing the Acme Hour rerun early Sunday morning.
Given that CN had a chance to do something different with the overnight Acme Hour in October -- when the regular Saturday night shows were pre-empted -- the way they did in 2000 but didn't, I'd say this isn't any great loss. My earlier concern was they were dumping time for the classic Hollywood theatricals in favor of the 1958-69 H-B cartoons, which would have been a mistake.
I wonder if they will run these old shows in a "restored" format (i.e. with their original B&W bumpers) or if they will bring back the new CN openings, bumpers, etc. CN could restore all but the Ruff and Reddy show, if they wanted too.

Please excuse my Swiss cheese-type memory on Ruff and Reddy, but weren't those half-hours always shown (and so kept) intact?

I recall reading somewhere that they put Screen Gems cartoons (Fox and Crow, B&W Color Rhapsodies, etc) into the show in order to save money (sort of like an extra segment of the show).
I don't know if they redid the show for syndication later on (when Columbia stopped distributing H-B cartoons), or if I'm wrong.

Glad to see that everyone is happy, but now I have a question... Would CN be willing to air LNB&W on Boomerang? They have a lot more space on Boom than they have on CN, and Boom is aimed at an older (but not necessarily more "sophisticrated" :p ) audience anyway. Why not a Mid-Evening Black & White?

Weird ... I do remember those Screen Gems cartoons popping up on NBC too, only at the midpoint of "King Leonardo and his Short Subjects"! Since it's highly unlikely that Total Television had to save any more money in producing its shows, and if that ever really did happen, there must have been some sort of guerrilla warfare going on in master control that season, either at the network itself or at our local station ...!

I can't speak for other markets, but when Ruff and Reddy was running here in the 1970s, only one of the cartoons was shown each weekday, as a segment of our local Bozo's Big Top program, which was primarily devoted to running old theatrical cartoons.

That's a good idea. The era Boomerang is meant to recall is an era where b&w cartoons aired, especially Popeye(I'm not sure about LT sefore they made those gawdawful redrawns; I only remember back to the late '60s, being born in 1961 and all). Great idea for the Boomerang channel...(in Droopy frown: ) I wish I got it. (back to normal)
Personally, I wish LNB&W would air at 1 AM. I could switch on over after Saturday Night Live(unless the Classic SNL is a '70s show!). Still good to see it continue.
