"Batman: The Animated Series" and "Superman: The Animated Series" have enjoyed a nice hiatus from Toonami, the respective heroes getting a chance to shine in the brand new animated series Justice League.

But Batman and Superman have returned. And in the most unusual of places.

Starting January 7th, Batman and Superman will air on Cartoon Network from 11 PM - 12 AM.

So, what does this mean? Is the Midnight Run being extended?

It seems more like a late night action block, similar to the "Samurai Jack/Justice League" block.

This block is a very good idea, because it helps to transition from the light comedies of Cartoon Cartoons into the darkness and action of Toonami, without having to be associated with either.

In addition, Cartoon Network will run a week-long on-air poll to decide who is better: Batman or Superman. This poll will run from the 21st through the 26th.

No word yet on what series will be broadcasted.
