Barb Gordon

Hey all! Well, I think it's about time we brought up the subject of everyone's fav...um, or at least some people's fav girl in Gotham, Batgirl!
Of all the Batgirl's there have been, who do you like and why? And what do you think of the Batgirl they have now, Cassandra? Do you prefer Barbara Gordon as Batgirl, or as the Oracle? And do you like it that they made her the Oracle and made her paralyzed, or was there something that you wished the writers had done instead?
oooh, and here's one more thing to talk about: Dick and Babs. Do you think they're meant to be or not? Or do you wish that the writers would just drop that relationship and focus on those two finding other people?
Let's here it!

Ya, Babs is my 2nd fave Batman character of all time (TAS or mainstream), but I dont like her as oracle and I dont really like Cassandra, although i do get her book for the time being.
Cass is just nit 'Batgirl' to me, y'know?
Anyway, here's to all Babs's TAS chick fights!!!!
Batgirl vs Harl in ROTJ
Batgirl vs LiveWire in Girls Night Out
Batgirl vs Catwoman in Batgirl Returns (that fight had potential, but I guess they just couldnt do it. :( )

Babs is my #1 fave Batgirl! I like Dick and Starfire better, so I don't think his and Barbara's relationship was meant to be.
I love Batgirl!
I think she really held her own in Shadow of the Bat and SubZero, and I like Barbara Gordon in Batman Beyond, too.
Cassandra Cain is probably a nice Batgirl in the comics, but like Bobby Boy, I do NOT consider her "the" Batgirl.
As for Babs and Dick, well, I'm torn. I loathe Dick's "thing" with Huntress in the comics, and in TAS and TNBA, I'm a pure Dick/Barbara fan, but in BB, I just love the thought of Barbara and Bruce together. I'm weird that way.

You're not the only one. I know a lot of people think it's not right, but I thought it was an interesting twist. I'd really like to see the Dick/Babs/Bruce triangle played out someday.

Batgirl I like because she's another strong woman character. They did a great job on her in the animated series. I personally like the Dick/Barbara relationship, but the one of her and Bruce didn't surprise me because I've tinkered on the idea. Hey, it's possible, since they worked so close together and she knew of his identity too. :)

Sorry, Babs and Dick fan all the way here. And yea, by my sn you all probably know that she's my fav. The whole Bruce/Babs thing in BB really grossed me out and I don't think Babs would sink that low. I mean, going for the son, then to the father is really sick. Any way, I gotta say, I like Babs all around, whether she's Batgirl or Oracle, though I kinda wish she wasn't paralyzed. Any one here wanna she her and Dick have kids? I think it would be cute... :) I can see it know...
teacher: "And what does your mommy and daddy do for a living?"
kid:"My mom and dad are doctors"
kid2:"My mom is a lawyer and my dad is a dentist"
son/daughter of Babs and Dick: "Yea? Well my mom and dad are dark knights" (blows raspberry at stuck up classmates)

LOL Batgirl! I guess it's kinda obvious with my SN, but I am a Babs fan. I like the animated continuities better since she isn't paralyzed and is still Batgirl. But I'm glad that even if Barbara can't be out fighting in the comics, she's still doing her part to help as Oracle. Cassandra is cool, but she isn't 'the' Batgirl, as several others have mentioned.
And for me it's Dick and Babs all the way!! :) I was kinda shocked when there was the admittance of a relationship with her and Bruce in BB, but the idea didn't seem totally out there or wrong to me. In TAS it was clearly shown that Babs had a crush on Batman, so I guess I can see why she might have acted on those feelings. I do prefer to think that the Bruce/Babs thing wasn't as serious or as meaningful as the Dick/Barbara relationship.

Wellll, since it's obvious that I hve a babs related SN as well, I think it would be safe to safe that I love Batgirl/Oracle/Barb! I loved her as Batgirl, but she holds her own so well as Oracle, it's great. Nightwing is my fav bat character, and I have always thought that Babs and Dick were meant to be, in someway or another. But, I can see where Babs might have a crush for Bruce and all that. Still, Dick and Babs are sooo cute together!

Barabra Gordon is my favorite Batgirl in both mainstream and the animated series. I for one favor that Dick and Babs get together. As for Cassandra, I like to see her in Batman Beyond. I think she makes a great Batgirl in BB; assuming that there is a forth season of BB.

Its already been established how much I loathe the current character who bears the name Batgirl so I wont go into that here.
I really love Babra Gordon and the TAS version of her most of all. She was cute, she was fun and she was an effective, smart, and tough female character. I've also always loved her costume design as well. In my mind, if you're gonna have a Batgirl it should be Barbra Gordon.
The fact that shes been crippled and replaced just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Of course alot of things about the nihilistic trends of modern comics have so nothing new there. Thank god for Bruce Timm and TAS.
The idea of the May/December romance between her and Bruce is one of those ideas so brilliant and obvious I cant believe no one thought of it until Batman Beyond.
It really flows as a story because you have her loving Dick Grayson who obviously has always loved her, but Dick is the one whos prone to take off.
Also, during the years between the two series and during, Batgirl worked very very closley with Bruce. I'm betting the romance happened sometime after Alfred passed away and either before or after the events of ROTJ.
While Dick and Barbra are a darling couple, theres something about Barbra and Bruce that just seems to make alot sense. Can't put my finger on it, something just feels...right about it.
I'm also betting that this romance is the thing that finally drove a wedge completely between Bruce and Dick.

I too think the Barb/Bruce combo makes sense. I think Bruce and Gordon have developed a father/son dynamic, so Bruce becomming Gordon's Son In Law, feels right.
Barbra's attraction to Bruce makes sense as well. Bruce is the experienced, "older man," after all. He can replace Gordon in the father figure role and he has mysterious/dangerous thing going for him.
Also, Bruce has been with tons of rich, socialite women, whom he's never gotten serious with because:
A) He's Batman and the secret and the mission come first.
B) He really doesn't like those women. He's just passing the time and keeping up appearances.
But, Barbra is not a rich socialite. She's strong, smart and pure and Bruce admires her. Remember Bruce didn't have a normal adolecsence. He was grieving and training. Through Barbra's youthful exuberance he can recapture some of his lost innocence.
Plus, Barbra is a crime fighter as well. So they have a lot in common and don't need to explain what they're doing nights.
I like their pairing. I like it a lot.
Dick should definitely move on.

Well, I have to say my least favorite rendition of Batgirl was the from the pathetic movie, where they made her Alfred's niece. Considering that the Gordon from those movies is obviously unable to reproduce, cause he's a complete moron, not withstanding. As to Cassandra, I liked her in "No Man's Land" but I dislike the new comic, where she talks. I liked the silent treatment. I also liked her trying to communicate with Babs. Oracle is cool, I like her interaction with Batman the most. He treats her as an equal, expecting just as much from her as he did when she was Batgirl. And she puts up with it.
There's my 35 cents...

Another thing in recent comics that bugged me was when they had Harley dressed as Batgirl.
Not because of the story, but basically because it made me imagine how freaking cool it would be to have the true Barbra Gordon Batgirl in her own book with Terry Dodson drawing it!!

THAT was cool, seeing the original Batgirl suit in the comics again. And you're right, Terry did an awesome job on those issues, one of my favorite stroy arcs from HarleyQuinn...
