Annoying Voices of Anime

Here are a list of voices (American) that I think are annoying or doesn't fit the anime character:

Yugioh(pharaoh)-I crack up whenever I hear him say "This is more than just a duel!" on those commercials.

Pazu from Castle in the Sky-The voice is too old for him

Rio from Shaman King-Plain annoying

Sailor Moon in the later seasons-Annoying

Kero from Cardcaptors-(Isn't that the voice of Kira?) Like the Japanese voice better

Flay and Lacus-They sound like a bunch of kids

Joey from Yugioh-Plain annoying

The most annoying voice for me is Kaiba from Yugioh.

Kaiba's voice bothers me as well. It sounds like Brock from Pokemon trying to be evil.

Yami's voice cracks me up as well. "This is more than just a duel!" ... No Yami it isn't, it's just a freak'n card game.

I like Rio's voice despite the name change. I find it entertaining.

Ugh... Ussop's voice so hard on the ears. But I finally got used to Luffy's... I still don't like it much though.

Joey's voice would be okay if it didn't have an accent. But it does... and that makes it horrible.

Amy's voice is painful on the ears (like Chisa on Comic Party). Same VA. Lisa Oritz has some nice natural sounding voices though.

I don't mind Lacus sounding so young but Fllay is just awful sounding...

Sailor Moon's cast has always been awful in the US. Especially when Cloverway took over.

All extras in 4kids dubbed series sound awful. PERIOD. Oddly enough side characters on Inuyasha don't sound too great either.

Knights of the Zodiac's dub overall was horrendous.

There's plenty more of course but I'm done listing them at the moment.

You can't tell me you don't like Spike Spencer's screams. He sucks at acting but those screams are wonderful. Spike was better as Akito on Nadesico though.

The dubbed Dilandu from Escaflowne... I had heard that they'd released an uncut dub, so I figured, I've seen the sub it was good, the dub must be too. I stopped trusting Dubs forever the moment he spoke.

After that scarring effect, I thought Risa's dubbed voice on DNAngel sounded like a deranged four year old...

-Cream the Rabbit. In any language.
-Excel. (Not necessarily lousy, but very grating.)

-Zero and all three kids from SD Gundam.

The one dub actor whose voice I could never tolerate under any circumstances was Kermit Mueller (Tenchi). I'm not sure why I have such an instant antipathy toward him, I just do.

Chronos di Mediz in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX

I am one of the many YGO fans who prefer the vastly superior original voice over the 4Kids dub characters (even though I have heard that Seto Kaiba sounds the movie (got to see it)), but this character was ugly enough. Why did they have to give such a high-pitched, grating, Italian/Japanese dialect of a voice to make him more annoying.

I am also one of the many anti-GX fans who prefer that the show was never made.

Why so much hate for Spike Spencer? His Dr. Shioji (sp?) in 'Excel Saga' was hilarious! Watch him in that role and tell me that his voice is annoying and he can't act. :anime:

So you can't see him using that voice in a serious role? Because compared to a lot of the characters in that series, his voice in that series is pretty normal and calm sounding. I don't know why he doesn't use a voice similar to that one more often. Maybe tone it a bit, but...

I can tolerate most dubs and love a few (Azumanga, Abenobashi, Ranma), but some things are inexcusable: Arcade Gamer Fubuki's best friend has such an annoying voice, I can't bear to watch the dub. The casting of A-ko and B-ko on A-ko 2, 3, and 4 are bizarrely mixed up. It's so counter-intuitive to hear a livlier higher-pitched voice coming out of B-ko than A-ko. I recall hating Minnie-Mae's voice in Gunsmith Cats, too.

There are probably others, but they'd be in anime I wouldn't be watching anyway.

There have been several characters in anime that I find annoying or who I think just doesn't fit the character. Most of that can be blamed on the dub, however:shrug:

-Pretty much the entire cast of Yugioh. Awful dubbing for that anime.
-Dilandau (Escaflowne): When I first heard his dub voice, I thought he was a woman:ack:
-Knuckles and Amy (Sonic X)
-Kaori (Akira): She sounds like a little girl
-Fllay, Cagalli, and Lacus: Their dub voices irritates me for some reason
-Pan (DBGT): What's more annoying than her character is her dub voice.:mad:

That's all I can think of for now.

Almost, what 15? years later and my friends and I still use Minmei from Robotech as the archetype of a voice that could put a person in the fetal position. Its even worse since she was suppose to be this great singer in the story... Ughh!

Osaka. Her voice single-handedly stopped me from watching the dub. I DID, however, eventually watch one of the later dubed episodes, and her voice did sound better (but still not great).

It isn't the accent, it's the voice. I didn't even know who was talkin at first. She sounds to old, and she sounds more "quite" than "spacy".

And that means a lot comin from me, because I can watch the Yu-gi-oh dub without many complaints.

I guess it matters what series he is in (OVA he's great; TU he seems to be just shouting the words). On the other hand, he rocks in the first two Tenchi movies (His torturous pleading to Washu to rescue his mother, his narration, his comedic attempts to avoid a conflict between Mayuka and Ryoko, his nasty condemnation to Yazuha; all great moments).

But then, I like Spike Spenser in EVA, though I felt the Japanese VA had the better screams (the same case for Johnny Young Bosch in Trigun). I thought Spenser's commentary in the Platinum Edition to be a highlight.

as does Full metal Alchemist. please don't damn Funimation by DB/Z/GT and YuYu Hakusho (which has failry decent dubbing as well, aside from Kuwabara)

Spike Spencer I can tolerate. He's not too bad as an actor and handled his role as Shinji about as well as anyone who speaks English could.

With Muller, it's not even so much his acting or non-acting... I just can't stand the man's voice. Whenever he's acting, I usually can't get past my aesthetic reaction to his voice to even focus much on his character. I wonder, sometimes, if this isn't why I've never been able to enjoy Tenchi Muyo much in any form; the first Tenchi I watched was a dub of the first OAV, and was my first experience with Muller Syndrome.

The entire dub cast of Sailormoon, both the DiC version and Cloverway. Both stunk, both had horrible voice work, just all around made me want to fall on a rail road spike.

Especially Serena's voice. My goodness... Just thinking about that dub give me hives.

I know that Usagi had an annoying voice, but at least that seemed to fit with the character overall in the Japanese version. And, the most important thing, Mitsuishi Kotono didn't yodel...

Oh, and she does the voice of Juri in SKU, so that gives her points in my book any day.

The main girl in Excel Saga, no actually almost everyone in Excel Saga. I can't freakin' understand what the heck they say!! I had to watch the English version in subtitles! After watching 2 episodes, I finally could understand them, but then that main girl sounds so annoying and that space girl talks too low. At least the show's good.

With the exception of Spike Spencer, Evangelion was probably the best dub ADV has done.

Gendo, Ritsuko, Misato, Aoba, Hyuga, Maya, Fyutsuki, Asuka (yes she was annoying, but it couldn't be avoided, it's part of her character), Rei and Kaji were all expertly done. Considering when the series was dubbed (dubs being across the board bad at that time), it turned out pretty dang well.

Guess we have very different standards. Maybe it's because I watched the Japanese audio first and was spoiled (all the voices, honestly, feel like a step down in expressiveness.) Gendo, Fuyutsuki, and Maya all felt like they'd never seen the script before the recording session and just had to do the best they could. Ritsuko's voice failed to convey any of her strength of character (well, her strength at the beginning of the series, at least.) True, Asuka was annoying, but she grates on my nerves less when I can't understand her. Misato sounds like a bimbo every time she opens her mouth, which is an insult to one of the show's more complex characters. Shinji is Spike Spencer. (Actually, I don't have anything personally against Spike Spencer, having only heard his role in EVA. Just going with the general flow of Spencer h8age there.)

I don't remember Aoba and Hyuga's voices. Rei was all right. I really hated Kaji at first (because he didn't sound at all like the Japanese voice) but then loved his performance the second time through.

Actually, Gendo's dub voice "was" one of the rare acclaimed roles in American anime fandom - and that was during a time (1997) when just mentioning any dub would get you into fights. :D

"Was" because ADV has now completely replaced him in their yet latest Eva dub incarnation.
And they also appreciate that dub Asuka could actually speak German, though with a stilted accent according to Deutschland fans.
