Laziness is a major part. During the Morrison run on JLA I noticed he kept [explentive deleted] about how he couldn't figure out ways to incorporate Arthur/Aquaman in travel scenes/frames because on land his mode of transport is basically running. He's real fast on land 120mph or so, but it's not enough to compensate for his lack of flight. Timm and company are no different. The land lovers like Batman has his Jet, and the Flash well he's the fricken Flash. If you notice during the pilot whenever they had to rapidly get around it was always flight unless your the Flash.

They did not want to figure out various ways of travel for Aquaman! Everyone knows the show would be better with him and as part of the original 7, deserves much better. :p

While it's true that he's very useful in many aspects (Grant Morrison did a fine job of making him an asset), but the old prejudice has some merit--he's not much use out of water. Well, of course he is useful, but many of his "out of water" talents are duplicated by the other members. It's the same reason that there's no magical member of the team--what would they do if it wasn't a supernatural threat?

Overall, I think that Hawkgirl was a good choice. Turning this old "sidekick" into a main character was an inspired move by Bruce Timm and company. She's pretty much the same character as Hawkman, but she's not as tainted by Hawkman's continuity mess (or his awful costumes). She's also a well-known character who isn't as defined as, say, Superman or even the Flash. Plus, she's an additional female character on a mostly male team.

But she's kind of a redundant WW...

It all comes down to popularity. You gotta have your big guns first ! Supes, Bats and WW. Then you gotta have GL and flash who both have a bigger fan following then Aquaman.
Aquaman has aways being viewed as the fish guy or the guy that can only talk to fish, :) pretty much useless if you think about.
Lets face it he's only useful if there's a crisis involving the sea. Otherwise pretty much like another flash in the group.
The writers had to go with what the fans mainly want to see in action. Supes, Bats, WW and GL! even with just these four it's still a powerhouse and having MM/J'onn and hawkgirl it's just like adding icing to the cake
Basically I think the writers did a fine job choosing the team members.

The JL producers, etc. did a fine job indeed when selecting League members. See, I love Aquaman. I think he's a very cool character with a lotta potential. But none of that potential is in the Justice League. Underwater, he's top-notch due to his knowledge of the depths and his powers. Besides that.....what can ya say? He works very well as a guest star, though, and I'm looking forward to his appearance in a week and a half.

Howdy all,

Well, I'd think that someone like Zatanna or Dr. Fate (probably the 2 most likely magicians to join the JL) would be a pretty solid asset to the team. I mean, they're MAGIC, you know? Zatanna's power is pretty much limited to what she can think up and say backwards at any given time. She's in big trouble if the JL has to face Gag Man, but beyond that I'd think she could rank up there with GL in terms of power. I think the lack of mystical experts on the team could be a pretty serious weakness, since Superman is known to be rather weak to magic, and none of the others (barring maybe Wonder Woman) have the chops to stand up to a serious mystical assault.

And she's a redhead. Don't forget that she's a redhead =8^). While Hawkman had some pretty lousy costumes, I kind of wonder about the Thanagar space cop/sex kitten outfit she's wearing now, though...

To attempt to swing this back into relevancy, I'd like to see Aquaman show up periodically on the show, but I'd completely believe his absence. In the modern era, he's even less of a joiner than Batman.

I think Hawkgirl was a fine addition. I like her attitude and battle prowess. Aquaman is cool but for the animated series I think he's better suited for guest appearances.
