Can anyone let me know what happened in this episode? I have my mom tape Buffy, Smallville, and Angel every week for me, but apparently she missed the first 45 minutes of this week's Angel. I turn it on, then figure she missed the first 15, thinking "Alright, she's doing me a favor, I'll just deal" but then the whole climax comes and the ep's over. Why did she even bother to tape anything if it was such a small portion?

Anyhow, if anyone can help me out, I'll be your best friend.

Well, hmm. Let's see. All this is spoilerish, so anybody who doesnt want to know turn back now....

Ok, I assume you've seen from the point where Darla stakes herself? I'll give a brief synopsis up to that point. In the beginning Holtz has Angel trapped in these iron things thanks to the Kreller demons. They're talking when Lilah comes in and tells Holtz a quick runthrough on Angel. Holtz finds out Angel has a soul. Meanwhile Darla took the car and drove away leving the crew in the alley. Angel uses a grenade to free himself and gets back to the crew. Meanwhile Lilah finds the script and takes it back to W&H to get it translated. We also see a flashback where A& D vampirized Holtz's kid and he had to throw her in the sun to kill her himself. It was sad.

Angel goes to look for Darla while the crew looks for a safe place to give birth. Angel finds Darla on a rooftop. THey have this great conversation about how Darla can feel love for the first time in her life thanks to the baby and how she knows she's going to forget it all when the baby is born. The group finds Caritas as a safe haven, Lorne has fixed the spell so that no violence can be done. There's a funny sequence where Fred is slapping Gunn to see if the spell works or not. Meanwhile Lilah's translation finds out that there will be no birth, just death.

A & D go back to Caritas, they realize that Darla can't give birth and that the baby will die inside her. They have another great conversation, about Darla's new humane feelings. Meanwhile Holtz comes into the bar. Lorne tells him they're closed and re-opening the next night and gives him a flyer. Then Lorne goes to pour everyone drinks, on the way out Holtz starts humming. and lorne realizes what's going to happen and tells everyone to run. Holtz throws a gas barrel down the steps and then throws a grenade down as well. And then BOOM! and they leave back into the alley. And then the final 15 minutes take over. With Darla and Angel having another great conversation, Darla stakes herself to save the baby, and I guess you've seen it from there.

Angel as a single father...I don't know, but I simply can't picture a brooding, dark vampire con una alma changing diapers and mixing baby formula. And with Darla a pile of dust, does that mean Cordy will be the erztatz mommy? For not having a soul, Darla demonstrated a great capacity for self-sacrifice and nobility--not unlike Spike.

Holtz could've killed Angel right then and there in the alley, but I'm not sure what stayed his hand. At first it seemed he had a change of heart, but it's possible he has an even worse plan in mind. Of course once Angel's dead, what's for him? A return to hell? Nothing to strive for?

Lorne's lost everything that means anything to him twice over. Will Caritas ever be rebuilt? Will Lorne start looking into properties in a better neighborhood? Very slick of Holtz to figure out a loophole in the protection spell.

Angel won't air next week, which is why there were no previews before the credits.

Yeah, I felt terrible for Lorne, he did all that work to re-fix up the place and then BOOM. He just can't catch a break. I wonder if he'll be ticked at the gang again.

I think Holtz is going to use Angel's baby to torture him, like Angel and Darla did to him and his family. It should be interesting to see how it turns out. Although, I don't want to see too many domestic, changing diapers, feed the baby type of scenes.

Spoiler:

the realization that spike can hit buffy without giving him pain which poses the question, is buffy still human? and the "dance" they did at the end was just a little bit too explicit.
