I found this Christmas themed DVD over on the Movie Doctor (http://www.moviedr.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=320&item=rudolph&type=store) website the other night. It is from Front Row Entertainment (the makers of the Cartoon Explosion PD series), called Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It's only $6.99 and it sounds like a decent selection of classic Christmas cartoons. It includes two WB shorts: "The Shanty Where Santy Claus Lives" and "Gift Wrapped".

Hmm, the first Little Audrey cartoon "Santa's Surprise" is on the DVD... Hmmm, I'm considering buying this, since the first CARTOON EXPLOSION DVD I purchased had fantastic prints on it!

No. No post-48 cartoons are in the Public Domain. Somehow a few years ago 16mm (or worse!) prints of cartoons such as "Gift Wrapped" and "Lumber Jerks" got into some sleazy video company's hands and they probably assumed that since they were cartoons they must be in the Public Domain.
One can easily go to the Library of Congress' web site and look up the copyright renewal dates for most of the post-48's, not to mention the renewal dates for the redrawn cartoons. Some post-48's won't come up because the online database only goes as far back as 1978, but it's safe to assume they are all heavily protected.

i have a great problem! Why "Gift Wrapped", "Lumber Jerks" and "The Lion's Busy" was on public domain video? It's the 50's cartoons. Also a Tom & Jerry cartoon 50's was on public domain and the title are His Mouse Friday. Habitually, it's more the cartoons made at 1930 to 1943. Why are not?
