I would love to see DR WHO back on TV.

I think its time for new DR WHO episodes done
right.

And I know this is gonna be a controversial
statement - but I want it done by an American
Production company.

I know thats crazy say all you Dr Who purists ...
but I want this show done with the production value
of a Star Trek episode ... and lets face it if the BBC
does it well end up with aluminum foil aliens .
That may have been quaint in 1970 reruns but its not
gonna cut it today.

Now I would like to maintain the british sensibilities of the
show . I cant see anyone other than a brit playing the
good Doctor. Id like to see some of the old writers
like Terrrance ***** contributing and consulting on
a new show.

Personally , I had high hopes for the american pilot that
came out a couple years ago and was disapointed that it
failed.

It did a lot of things right.

It had a good actor as the eight doctor.
I enjoyed his portrayal.

It even had the doctor in appropriate wardrobe.
Lets face it the Dr is what he wears ... what would
Baker have been without his scarf.

It was mindfull of the Dr long history.
They didnt start from scratch .. but had Sylvester
McCoy appear and pass the torch to the 8th Doc.

Where did it fail ?

There was no story .
And there lies the biggest shame and irony ..
because in having no budget or special effects
all the original series we all loved had , was imaginitive
story telling.

Whats the forum think?

Are we ready for new who?
Any rumors?
Did we like the 8th doc?

They don't think there is a strong enough fan base for Dr Who here in America, so I doubt you'd see an American company flipping the bill on such a project. Heck, trying to find a PBS affiliate play the old episodes any more isn't always that easy.

I thought the BBC was working on a new movie? Or is it in development hell?

There doesnt have to be a strong fan base .
You build a fan base.

How big a fan base do shows who start from scratch
have? none.

Strong Premise, Engaging Characters , Well developed plots
and good acting ... thats the basis of a great show which then
builds a strong fanbase.

If anything Dr Who is at an advantage because it has a fan base
before there even a show.

Theres character and name recognition ...they dont have to
start at ground zero.

~

If shows like Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda can last in
syndication ( which are just painfully awfull ) why not
Dr WHO which has the ability to achieve greatness?

I agree. However, these movie and TV execs don't see it our way. They rely on demographics and decide what projects to push based on what they think will get them good money. If the Dr Who movie from a couple years ago failed, they aren't going to be pumping more money into this anytime soon unless we get lucky enough to have an independent party step up to finance the project himself, which does happen from time to time but is rare. As long as there is a precieved lack of a fan base for Dr Who in America (and note I said percieved...I don't think that's the case. I think there are alot of closet Dr Who fans here!) I am not holding out much hope for an American company to green light a new Dr Who series anytime soon.

There's a description of which channels play Dr. Who every week at this guide.

There are rumors of a movie AND a UK TV series being planned right now, but there have been rumors about stuff like that for years. I'm not going to get too excited until I hear about them going into production.

I love the Doctor too!

I great place to hear news, a forum etc. is Outpost Gallifrey
at Gallifreyone.com.
Y'know the Doctor is very much alive in Book form and in audio form. I don't know if you've the BBC Death Comes to Time web audio drama but you should check it out even if it's a 7th Doctor/Ace adventure. The Console Room is part of the BBC Cult section at the BBC web site. BBC.Co.Uk.com. Check it out Dr. Who's now dead it's dying.
