Are you sure it was 2005? I thought it was 1998, the year the game was released.

Are you sure it was 2005? I thought it was 1998, the year the game was released. That wouldn't make sense, because Snake's infiltration of Zanzibar was in 1999.

Awesome games, both the original, Integral for the PC, and Twin Snakes. I still get a laugh out of Decoy Octopus though (who comes up with these silly names anyway?)

Metal Gear Solid is probably one of my all time favorite games. The stealth gameplay, much more so than the first two games, was an exciting and unique experience. The game features one of the better storylines found in videogames, and easily some of the best characters ever featured in a game. Snake is an excellent character, and the supporting cast is just as impressive. Nearly everyone featured in the game is fleshed out enough to make them a believeable, human character. Some of the supporting cast, like Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, and a few others, have a few really great scenes, with very memorable dialogue.

5/5

I didn't like The Twin Snakes as much, for a few rather minor reasons. The first person perspective is a mixed blessing. It makes the parts of the game where you have to shoot people much more interesting, but it also makes the gun far too easy (and tempting) to use in all the other situations where you don't. I don't care for the Matrix-flair of the new cutscenes. Most are interesting to watch, but they makes the characters seem too much like super-human soldiers, as opposed to the super-skilled soldiers they were originally. The game also changed some of the characters accents and tweaked some of the dialogue. These are minor changes, but they still seem annoying and unnessary.

TTS is not official cannon, but a fun way to play MGS1 battles with MGS2 mechanics. I do appriciate how Snake's battle with RO in this game parrellels Big Bosses with young Ocelot.
