1. Bif! Bam! Pow!- The Adam West Batman was sheer greatness. Sadly it made superheroes more stereotyped than ever.
2. Capes and Flight- If you're a superhero you have to wear a cape and fly, right?
3. The Most Decent Folks Around- Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to my main man, Frank Castle!
Okay superheroes are stereotyped what ones do you tend to notice?

Every major DC hero. In fact, I'd say DC was more guilty of presenting that typical superhero image than anyone else. Hardly anyone at Marvel wears a cape, but they still fall into other categories.
I'd say the only time you're gonna get a less-than-stereotypical superhero is in a more obscure book.

Superheroes are sterotyped because fans want their characters a certain way. Fans who can't let go of continutity hold on with an iron clad grip to what they like, and change is never an option for some of them. Think about continuity and being true to character... we're all guilty of scrutinizing a hero/villain somewhere down the line with our fanboy states-of-mind because a character was taken out of context, or Spiderman's webs aren't suppoed to be coming from his body, or the "Batsuit" still looks like rubber, etc. Mainstream comics will always have a "sterotype" because us fans want things done how we see them fit. Of course that doesn't always happen (a-la Joel Shumacher), but the majority of the time... it's because we're asking for it.

Even the DC heroes don't wear capes as much as they used to. Superman, Batman and those associated with them are mainly the ones that still do the cape thing. Occasionally JSA types like Alan Scott and Dr. Fate too.
Imagine if people knew the stereotypes that regular superhero comic readers throw around. The whole "unable to stay dead" thing is a biggie.
By the way, Donald Duck 12. Frank Castle isn't really a superhero. He's more of a super anti-hero, if such a thing exists. Some would even say he's a villian.

Good one, and it true and yet not true. Kraven and Jason can stay dead, but Norman and Supes can't. And I guess Punisher walks on both sides, a little more on the good side. Basically anything DC put out in the Golden Age become a fashion statement, became stereotypes. Sidekicks are another biggie, so're masks and costumes. Look at how many don't today.

Most comic book characters really aren't decent people anymore. Even those who were so moral it made you sick back in the day are having affairs, and killing people now. Now I could be wrong about what you're refering too since I don't know who Frank Powers is.

Superman is the embodiment of the superhero stereotype.
