I STILL cant believe that the mediocore at best Undergrads out on DVD. I have to wonder when will we get to see such MTV classics as The Maxx and Daria on DVD or my lesser known Favs like Downtown and 3-South. I NEED these shows

Is my only option to break into MTV and get these videos out Mission Impossible style?

Just curious and wanted to know if anyone knew anything,
thanks

"Are you aware that every time Julie sees me, she cuts off my head?"

As much as I LOVE to see The Maxx out on DVD, I somehow think, it's been a bit too many years. Was The Maxx even a big hit with them?

Daria, on the other hand, I can't imagine why they haven't done something about this already....interesting.

As for getting your hands on the tapes....I'm sure, if you asked nicely they'd GIVE them to you. But there's 16 24-hour armed guards, guarding the Real World/Road Rules vault. Just another example on how people are satisfied with bullcrap. Oh, and while you're storming the Headquaters of the once mighty MTV, have the head programmers put Headbanger's Ball back on.

Spiderman: TNAS is on DVD also. Plus, Daria, do they even own the rights anymore?

I'm glad you liked 3-South. It was a lot of fun making them. Most of the 3-South writing staff is either on Family Guy or Drawn Together so you should check out those shows for the same type of humor.

From what I hear, music rights are tying up any releases of "Daria". As for "Downtown" and "3-South", I can't think of a single reason why they haven't been released.

Well, hello. It's always nice to hear from a staffer on an animated show.

My guess is lack of interest.

Except for the theme song, 3 South only used original music so as to avoid licensing problems.

Those shows are all great and all, but what about the short-lived MTV cartoon that everyone always forgets exists? Clone High badly needs a DVD release so that those who missed out on it because of MTV's erratic scheduling, early cancellation, and overall shoddy treatment can enjoy the goodness.

Honestly, if an obscure and short-lived but brilliant 'toon like Clerks: TAS can see the light of day on an incredibly thorough and comprehensive DVD release packed with special features, MTV can crank out a barebones Clone High set for some quick cash.

I'd like "Cartoon Sushi" myself. But only the GOOD shorts, like Plympton's, for example. None of the bad ones.

How could I have forgotten the incredibly hilarious "Clone High"? I would definitely love to see a DVD release of this as well.

I think the problem is, is that Mtv's geared around Mass-Market Youth Retail, and releasing obscure classic violates the Mass-Market and probably the youth side too. I think we need more MediaBlasters-type companies licencing DVD rights a la Zim, basically because Viacom refuses to get off it's butt and release proper discs for almost all of it's older/obscure animated content because they just don't get that there is a surprising large demand for it. It'll be the only way 3-South, Downtown, Clone High, Daria and the like will ever get proper boxset releases (or released at all.)

Has there been any word on The Maxx? I was just about to start a thread about it over onthe DVD Board. I didn't catch every episode but from what I caught on MTV and Teletoon I really, really liked. I heard it's out on VHS but the tapes are edited or something. The Maxx could easily fit in a 1 - 2 disc DVD set easily.

I'd like to see Clone High on DVD as well.

Good call-- the Zim deal was such a coup for both Media Blasters and the fans, it'd be nice to see more big conglomerates like Viacom, Time Warner, etc. farm out rights to non-staple shows like that. Heck, give it to Rhino, they'll do a good job with it.

But... what about Liquid Television?! D=

THe problem with shows like Liquid TV and Cartoon Sushi is the rights have most liekly reverted back to the original owners. Daria has 2 DVDs out for the "Is it (Insert word here) yet?" movies, but music rights forced them to use stock music for some of them IIRC. DeepDiscountDVD.com (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com) has both for $9.36 each, and both include 2 bonus episodes.

Yeah, music rights seem to be killing Mtv's ability to get a lot of this stuff out there too. For something like Zim, which has an Original Score, it's not an issue. Mtv didn't properly licence a bunch of the music they used, so while they got away with for TV airings, it'll never show up on DVD because it'd cost a lot of money to remove/replace the music, and it'd probably cost even more to obtain proper licences.

George Krstic said that Downtown will never be released due to music rights. Downtown? It had all original music (by Kimson Albert, now of Venture Bros, incidentally.) Why would there be any problem releasing it? I'm sure they probably got him to sign over the rights to it. They distributed it through their website at once time, afterall.

the trouble w/ Daria is that they'd have to re-score the entire series
are they willing to do that? i hope so. i have the 1st 2 vhs releases but i'll have to pick up those 2 movies

Is It College Yet?

Well, isn't that delightful?! The very least - the absolute minimum - the network can do is rerun the show so that people can have, at least, a sporting chance of taping it. I mean, MTV2 manages to find five hours every Friday night for reruns of "Celebrity freakin Deathmatch"! It's only fair!
