Hi. Music enthusiast here. I like ripping music from video games straight to my PC via Line-In. I have discovered a problem doing this that only my PS2 seems to have. Whenever I record something, the playback always has fuzz in the background. I've tested my other systems and they record crystal clear. I've tried cleaning off the RCA plug contacts with alcohol and that didn't help. Might I need to invest in another AV cable or could this be an enternal problem?

Ummm...I think Sony tries to block pirating, that's probably why you get the static.

You're probably right. But I know people who can get static-free sounds from the system using the same stuff I use. I trade music with people who make music with the MTV Music Generator series and they manage to get theirs clear.

If you're making analog recordings (using the RCA connections) and you're getting static or other interference, then the problem is somewhere in the connection chain. It's coming from either the cables or the inputs. You might also get weird results if you record using any sort of pre-amp device, such as a receiver or effects processor.
The piracy thing doesn't really apply unless you're using the digital output for recording. Some digital output devices will use SCMS to prevent you from making digital copies of digital source material. But that only works if your recording device stops when it encounters SCMS data.

Ok. Lemme explain exactly what I'm doing.
What I am doing here is using a set of couplers and a Y-Adapter to connect the red and white RCA jacks from my PS2 to the the 1/8" Line-In phone jack on my sound card to make mp3's.
I use Advanced MP3/WMA Recorder to make mp3's.
I follow the same rules to rip songs from my GameCube and Xbox and there is no interference. I've tried toggling the Digital Out setting in the PS2 System Config. and that did nothing. Now I'm almost sure I need a new AV cable.
