View Full Version : Blackest Night better than Secret Origins? I think so!

Hey guys,

So far the set up for In Blackest Night is way better than the cliche filled, yet well developed Secret Origins episode. It comes off so far (with just seeing half of it) as a nice character tribulation episode for Green Lantern, and hopefully insight into his character (with why he feels he must take all the guilt) will be revealed in part two.

So far I like the story a whole lot more than Secret Origins, and with that, the show has only gotten BETTER now with episode 4.

My favorite part of this whole show so far is how well the writers know the characters.

I love how they said Batman "just said he was busy". That accurately represents how Batman, when Gotham calls, could care less about the rest of the world, or the universe for that matter.

Hawkgirl going overboard on those planes was a nice touch, and the Flash's dialogue continues to be funny: "Did they ask if I COULD fly the plane?"

So far this rocks!

Yeah, I found this episode more interesting and entertaining than "Secret Origins" and I look forward to Part 2.

So much better. I actually cringed at some of the stuff in the pilot. Nothing made me cringe in this episode. That is a good thing.

I like EVERYTHING about this episode! And any nit picks and criticisms of the show I had in my review of the pilot, I take them back. Heck, I even liked the Flash in this episode. Stronger story, stronger characters, and great pacing. Can't wait for part two!

Loved the ep! Great development of GL, with obviously more to come in part 2. The 2nd half of the ep showed MM to be strong and unwavering...very cool. Superman was very super in this ep, kicking some butt but still caring about the lives of others (and letting Hawkgirl know about it). I was certainly spoied with the 90 minute pilot. 30 minutes just doesn't seem like enough (but I shouldn't get greedy).

I agree, especially about the pacing. Even with three episodes to work with, 'Secret Origins' just seemed to throw the team together haphazard. 'In Blackest Night' packed so much into a half-hour, yet the story didn't suffer a bit! And the Samuel Jackson-esque John Stewart gained a lot of ground toward becoming my favorite character. I couldn't believe it when 'To Be Continued' flashed on the screen...

This show is gonna make Monday night even harder to wait for than Wednesday ('Enterprise', baby!). Aw man, have I become a couch potato so early in life?!

Bummer.

Yes, this episode was better then "Secret Origins". I thought it was kinda funny how much John looked like Shaft in his street clothes.

I'm looking forward to the next episode.

The best scene was when Superman single handly beat the Manhunters after the rest of the league got their butts handed to them.

I agree, this episode has a superior story. The character development was just great. The only thing that upset me was the absence of Wonder Woman. I know she can't be in every episode but I need my Wonder Woman. Anyway, I have nothing bad to say about this episode even if Wonder Woman wasn't in it. :D

I disagree .
I hope the writers dont fall for the trap of
making Superman too powerfull.

I dont wanna see a show where all the heros
struggle and then Superman comes in and
beats everyone single handedly.

This is the Justice League not Superman and his
amazing friends.

I want Superman to be a hero and struggle for his
victories so they mean something.
I also wanna see the superman relying more on the
team. I liked how the pilot had Superman be the first to
fall to the alien invaders and the other heros going to
resue him.

Its no fun if no ones a match for Superman.

I'd like a happy medium to be found for Supes. Not that I don't like seeing him kick some tail, but having him to de-powered seems to defeat the purpose of having Superman. In "SO" he was too weak for me, and "IDN" he had things a bit too easy. Granted, that style of foe might have been best for him to fight, and seeing him be "super" is nice every so often. I don't want to see him get beat up by whatever being, and then lift a tank like it wasn't much of a strain or grab an alien ship from the sky no problem. I'd like to see his powers more consistent.

This eppy was reeally good, but Secret Origins was better IMO. One, Batman wasn't in this eppy and Two, it focused on the GL who is my least favorite character of them all.

Don't get me wrong, I don't wanna see Superman always have to save the JL. I like seeing him being super powerful once in awhile but not all the time. I bet when he faces Mongul that he will get a good challenge.

Okay - In Blackest Night was much better. Better dialogue (which I attribute to a better script) and improvement on the voice acting (although Superman's line when they break into the trial is awful!) This episode has raised my hopes quite a bit. The dialogue still needs improvement. They don't have to call each others names as much as they do i.e. Superman announcing - "Hawkgirl, hold on!" It sounds cheesy and unnatural. The line should simply be "Hold on!" I don't know if anyone agrees but it's the subtle things in the voice acting that make it more realistic. BTAS and STAS had that down pat. I guess all the hype has made be scrutinize it more than usual. They are definately on the right track with "In Blackest Night". :D
