For me MGS2's plot...no matter how great the gameplay was...killed my love for the series. The plot was completely disjointed and the Raiden switch was INFURIATING. That was enough to upset me but not turn me off to the game, I beat it as Raiden and eagerly awaited the conclusion at the end of the game to learn that there wasn't one, just more ridiculous plotholes, silly twists, and unanswered questions. I FORGAVE all of it in faith that MGS3 would fix it all and restore the game to normality and playing as Snake. Maybe it's just me but learning that this new game was a prequel made me absolutely furious. How could he have made such a cooky plot for MGS2 and then make even MORE questions and then go an make a PREQUEL?! I am going to play the game eventually and it will determine if it restores the series to a good light in my eyes...but I am NOT excited about it in the least. I've waited since the 7TH GRADE (AND IM NOW IN COLLEGE) To have answers to questions that arose in the first MGS...I WANT THEM ANSWERED and I don't see how a prequel can really do too much of that. Anyone else feel this way?

I can't wait to play this, myself. Big Boss, 1960s, the jungle, it's like a harken back to the original Metal Gear for NES. I'm sure the game will answer SOME questions and tie SOME things together, but will present new questions as well.
And I was one of those people who didn't mind the Raiden switch in MGS2. It was a gutsy move for Kojima and I give him credit for it. And all those plot twists and unanswered questions made the game more fun to discuss with friends. ;)
P.S.: There's a MGS3 demo on the latest PS2 Jampack. Winter 2004, I think.

MSX MG just dropped you right into the middle of Outer Heaven if memory serves.

Since the release of Substance, I think that argument should be deemed moot anyway.

Nope I'm still looking forward to it even though the story of MGS2 did frustrate me a lot. Honestly though I wouldn't be amazed if you only play half the game as big boss in the past and then play the rest as Snake in the present. Unlikely maybe but it could very well happen.

I hated MGS2, and I've gone into detail about why a few times in the past (it doesn't have much to do with Raiden), but I'm still looking forward to this. I'm concerned that it will run into some of the same traps that MGS2 did, but I'm hoping for the best.
As for the unanswered questions of MGS and MGS2...I say keep them unanswered. With MGS, I don't think there were all that many unanswered questions, but the questions that did arise, I'd rather not know the answer to. I like using my imagination to make my own epilogue to that particular story.
The story of MGS2 was so ridiculous I don't want to see them build upon it ever again. In fact, after beating the game, I think I said to myself, "I sure hope the next game is a prequel."
Now the issue of playing Snake is a bit more tricky. Admittedly, when I was hoping for MGS3 to be a prequel, I was hoping we would see one of Snake's earlier Fox Hound adventures. Since the timeline of Metal Gear has already been established, I wouldn't mind if this game would have shown a non-Metal Gear mission of his. But I realize that would cause fans to go into an uproar, so that's more or less out of the question. So, in order to include a Metal Gear conflict, they either need to move the timeline forward to Snake's next adventure, or go to the past, and see the early days of Metal Gear.
As I said before, MGS2 was so convoluted that I really don't want to see them continue on that timeline. I think seeing the early days of Metal Gear is the best option. Plus, I think it could really add a lot of interesting history to the series, if it's done right.
And even though it's technically Big Boss you're playing, he looks like Snake, he sounds like Snake, and they call him Snake, so it's not like it's an entirely new character.

Well...from what I hear, MGS3 will have a lot to do with the Patriots and explaining who they are, so maybe that'll make you feel better.

I don't really think Metal Gear Solid left me with unanswered questions. It's more that the answers were so idiotic and convoluted that I no longer cared what the questions were. Anyway, even if the story reeks as bad as Metal Gear Solid 2, at least the gameplay in 3 will still be fun. But, I won't be picking it up, after all, they could just release Metal Gear Solid 3:Substance in a year.

I disagree ZorBrak, MGS2's plot was awesome. I have a hard time deciding which I like better, Twin Snakes or Sons of Liberty. Probably TS because the cut scenes are excellent since Kitamura did them. I also really enjoyed taking the control of another character instead of Solid the entire time. That was a nice twist, and I love his cartwheel move.
As for MGS3, no, I am not interested because it takes place in the past. If I found out it shifts later on into the future after MGS2, I may buy it, otherwise, it is a rental when I'm done with MP2. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if my brother got it, so maybe I'll just wait til he does.
Hopefully MGS4 will be back in the future.
They are good games, but they aren't the greatest.

What are you talking about? MGS 3 is probably the "game" I am looking forward to this year. I think it is somehow going to answer some of the important questions such as the origins of the Patriot and give us a greater insight into Big Boss's character who happens to be the reason of the whole series. Also your comment about being in 7th grade when the first mgs came out made me think. Would you have really wanted mg2 to come out a year after mgs with basically the same graphics and no major additions. You know how the story and the gameplay would have been butchered if konami wouldn't have taken their time with this game and would have released a new version of it every year?

I'm really getting impatient waiting for this game. You can only play the demo so many times before you go insane!

they should have a review for it by tomorrow since it is going to come out on wed.

I think it'll be hard for me to take a review of MGS3 very seriously because of what happened last time with MGS2. Almost every reviewer gave the game an endless amount of praise. Then after the public played it and got upset about a few aspects of the game, all the major sites began to make fun of the game, as if that's what they had been saying all along.

After seeing the commercials for MGS2 that showed everything Snake, I'm finding it hard to just accept what I'm seeing as the overall game. Hideo has to have something up his sleeve this time to bring about a twist just like MGS2. On that note - I can't wait to play MGS3. I've avoided the demo on all costs, as I don't want it to influence my opinion of the game. It's probably the biggest release of the month for me, even with Home Movies / Space Ghost / ATHF coming out too.

I heard they had a review but where forced to remove it for some reason unknown to me.

Maybe they gave the game an 8, and Konami didn't like it so they threatened to sue.

I'm not looking forward to MGS3 because I don't like any MGS, but that's not the answer you're looking for. :p

Although it's not my most anticipated game, I can't wait to play it.

Well Ign.com reviewed the game and they gave it a 9.4 and said that it was the best MGS game so far. Looks like Kojima learned his lesson and still released a good game.
