He is guilty of first degree murder with special circumstances and second degree murder of his unborn child.

The verdict -- reached by a six-man, six-woman panel -- leaves Peterson facing a possible sentence of death or life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors had accused Peterson of killing his 27-year-old wife, Laci Peterson, on or around December 24, 2002, in their home in Modesto, California. They said he dumped her body, weighted with homemade cement anchors, in San Francisco Bay. He had bought a boat not long before her death.
After 184 witnesses testified over a period of 23 weeks, defense attorney Mark Geragos said in closing arguments that prosecutors had introduced no direct evidence that Peterson killed anyone, and he admonished jurors to weigh only the evidence and to put aside their feelings about his client.
"I don't care if you hate Scott Peterson," Geragos had said.
During his closing arguments, prosecutor Rick Distaso told jurors that it was a common-sense case in which a man killed his wife and that Peterson was the only one who could have killed Laci.

Yes, I sat there and listened to the audio of this on CNN. It didn't surprise me but at the same time it did, because much of the media said that the prosecution didn't do as good of a job proving and bringing in evidence like they should have. So now they still have patrol. They are going to choose if he has a death penalty or 40 years in prison. Personally, I want him to get 40 years because that would be a lot more harsh than the death penalty. Overall, this case was unbelievable.

I am so shocked that Scott was found guilty. I thought he would totally get away with the perfect crime and be free to continue his womanizing ways. It’s nice when someone like this gets what’s coming to them but like I am sure they will go on and on for years fighting this so who knows what will happen to him.

THank God this finally ends. And Blackheart, I find you guilty of having a too tiny font. Fix it or face months of litigation and a crooked jury that I'll pay off :p

I read that people who were gathered outside the courthouse booed the Peterson family when they left, and that is disconcerting. But I believe he did it, and I'm all for him rotting in jail for 40 years.

I hope he gets the death penalty. He deserves nothing less.

Just proves that our judicial system is a bag of flaming poo.
No cause of death, circumstantial evidence (at best) and no real motive.
The verdict was simply "He cheated on his wife and she was pretty, therefore he murdered her."
Don't forget that anyone with the least inclination towards "Not Guilty" was kicked off the jury
People (even pregnant ones) are murdered every day. Why did this attract the circus (so that Scott couldn't possibly get a fair trial)?

Same thing to that brother. I heard the verdict on E! before any of the news systems brought it. I was sooo happy!

He deserves to be shot by Laci's parents.

It took the courts too damn long to do it, But Scott Peterson is ofund Guilty. I'm normally agianst the Death Penalty, but maybe it could be justified in this case?

I'd say the jury is ready to sentance death. If they were going to just lock him up for life, they wouldn't have found the special circumstances. I'm not sure where the "40 years" came from as the minumum sentance for Murder-1 is life in prosion. Unless you take into account that he can earn parole in 20 years, and if he gets 2 life sentances, it will take 40 years to earn parole. But like I said, if they wanted to just give him life, I don't think they'd find the special circumstances.

I have barely followed this case, so I'm just going to say he needs 40 years of prison, then let him go. 40 years should be enough for him to change.

This is absolutely true. The only thing I wondered during this whole case is why the hell is there so much media hype surrounding it. Laci Peterson wasn't a celebrity before this, why should her death make her one?
And I think the courts were trying to give him a fair trial (no cameras were allowed in the courtroom, for instance) so I do have faith that the jury made the right decision. (but why were those jurors released? I didn't understand that)

One of the jurors that were kicked off the case was kicked off for doing extra research on the case instead of following what the judge said and using only the evidence.

There was 2nd juror that was let go as well, right? Ah well, so at the moment it is either life or death for him then. I'd rather him get life so he could waste away for what he did.

Good. Now Laci and her son can finally rest in peace.

3 Jurors total were let go. The first was let go a while back because he talked to Laci's brother. The second one to be let go was the woman who looked up into on the internet. She was outed by the foreman who was a doctor/lawyer. She was on TV after the verdict and said that she was also ready to find him guilty. The foreman, after outing her to the judge, told the judge that he might have been tainted by the info, and the judge then let him go too.
-edit-
Apparently, the doctor/lawyer is now saying the others were rushing him to decide a verdict.

and after the electric chair they should hang him for denying his own child a future.. and his wife the rest of her life with both the child and her husband.
and when the cremation and the firing from a cannon and the mixing of pig manure with his remains, has been done to get rid of the body...
