Obviously in the pilot J'onn J'onzz and Wonder Woman were new characters, but Superman and Batman expressed recognition of the other "new" members:

Superman knew who Green Lantern (John Stewart) was, so it's a pretty safe assumption that he still remembers the Green Lantern Corps from the episode In Brightest Day. I'd also assume that Superman already knows what happened to Kyle and why John is the Green Lantern of Earth now.

Batman knew Hawkgirl by name. He's encountered her before.

Flash already knew Superman (Speed Demons) and apparently now knows Batman as well.

And, even though they've never met, Hawkgirl knows about the secret island of the Amazons (how did she find out?).

I loved that Batman and Flash were playing off of a little history. It made Flash's comments all the more sweet.

Yeah, Supes knew Jon. And it looked as if Jon has been a GL for almost as long as Kyle (perhaps earlier, but was never really around Earth).

And Hawkgirl was just kinda around. She didn't say enough to show a recognition. And she may have read up on mythology, thus hearing of Themyscara.

I was surprised at how Batman knew Hawkgirl and how Hawkgirl at least knew of the Amazon legend. I guess I've always kind of assumed that everyone had at least heard of everyone else. Of course, Bats recognizing Hawkgirl, Flash knowing Bats and GL, and Supes knowing John Stewart's GL leads me to belive they've all had some sort of interaction in the past. I also start to wonder what those interations were and how they progressed.
Also, J'onn J'onzz seemed to know everyone, at least telepathically. Wonder how he knew of everyone?

Well, for the most part he probably probed Batman and Superman's mind. However, that doesn't explain Diana.

And I get the feeling that this series is a few years after Legacy, so that gives plenty of time for meetings (perhaps, at least some of Batman's meetings will show up on that DTV Batman team-up flick)

Hawkgirl and J'onn J'onzz probably had observed Earth from afar and new all the public figures. Hawkgirl might have heard of Themyscara from a birdy!

Just because Batman knew Hawkgirl's name does not mean they've met before. Batman makes it his business to know who everyone is. Same goes for Flash and Bats. But Superman definitely knew John from somewhere.

Some of the knowledge that they had of each other might have been one on one team-ups in the past, or possibly even something like Bats reading a paper and seeing Hawkgirl rescuing people on the front page.

J'onn's got telepathy, so I figured he could have just gotten a list of good helpers from Superman and Batman's minds.

I've gotta agree w/kid_flash on this one. While Flash obviously knew who Batman was, and his attitude when speaking to him did suggest that they were at least aquaintances, it doesn't look like it would be out of Flash's character to be way too gregarious when meeting him for the first time.

By the way, Themyscira was the name of the city of the Amazons taken from actual Greek mythology. In the WW comics, when the Amazons were conquered by Heracles and abandoned the city, they took up residence on an island (Paradise Island) and named it Themyscira also. So while Hawkgirl may have heard of the original city from mythology, she most likely doesn't know anything about the island.

Good call. Hawkgirl probably had heard of the first one, but not the second (and it explains why the island is called both Paradise Island and Themyscira).
