Hey folks,
I wrote the second story in X-Men Unltd #5, and I've gotten mixed reviews...I was wondering if any of you fans read it and what you thought? Thanks!

Nobody, huh?
Well, I haven't been interested in that title because of the art, but I'll check it out if you're writing in it.:)

I haven't really read any reviews of your story, but I imagine the mixed response has as much to do with Wolverine/X-Men oversaturation as it does with the quality of your writing. A lot of people think there's too much Wolverine and too much X-Men on the stands, and X-Men Unlimited in particular has the tendency to be on the receiving end of that hate. I don't think it's anything personal, or even related to your work, really.

In fact, that was one reviewer's comments. But that's unfair. You do the work given to you and there's no need to discredit something based on the fact that you (not you, but in general) are tired of seeing Wolverine all over the place. Heck, next month, you just wait...he'll REALLY be everywhere!
I don't disagree with you...there are a lot of X titles, but I should hardly be made to feel guilty about it or feel like its my fault. It's work for hire...they dont exactly ask my opinions.

Thanks Pyro. Do yourself a favor though...if you can read it in the store without purchasing, it'd make me feel better.

Howdy,
Well, I read it in the store yesterday, and thought it was an OK story that's getting the raw end of Wolverine over-saturation. There were a few pretty clever ideas in there ("I'm a mutant" as a dumping line and the idea that there are people who'd be attracted to the danger of a superhero), which aren't quite enough to sustain a full 22-page story, but which can't really be worked into an average X-Men story too easily. I kind of didn't like the women very much, but I get the sense that I wasn't really supposed to.
So, I suspect being in the anthology comic and the current market conditions have pretty much ensured you're starting off 6 feet in the hole as far as a lot of critics and readers are concerned.
It vaguely reminded me of this short story in the old Marvel Comics Presents where the Gray Hulk is trying to get drunk in a bar while Selene (the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club) tries to find someone to pick up and feed on. Very strange story, most memorable for having Brian Stelfreeze artwork.
