With "Harry Potter's" huge opening weekend, what do you think the odds are that Warner Bros. aren't going to develop an animated series for fall 2002? I'm sure WB will cash in on the success of the film.

In fact, I'm shocked no one said anything about that possibility before, now that you mention it. If 93.5 million bucks opening weekend doesn't mean instant success for every single thing that franchise does afterwards, what does? Though the question is will people go back after seeing it to see it again, that's what got the top movies of all time to make so much money. About 100 million down, 500 left for the all time U.S record. But anyway, with the WB and their cashcow record, I don't doubt the word animated series will not fail to be attached to Harry Potter eventually. Whether it will happen in fall 2002 or midseason 2003 is the only question the K-Man has to answer.

Does the Harry Potter movie have enough CGI like Cats and Dogs to be considered the highest-grossest animated film by WB?

nope, I don't think so. There wasn't that much.

And don't worry, I've heard that an animated series is already planned, and was long before the movie opened. Yuck. I really don't want to see Harry Potter animated...I don't know, it just doesn't work for me...

An animated series?? Oh someone end this horror now! Sorry to anybody who's a big fan, but I am so incredibly sick of seeing Harry Potter plasted all over my tv screen. You change a channel to get away from him, only to find a commercial for Harry Potter legos on the one you wind up one. It's all gone past the typical Harry Potter shrine in bookstores.

I like the Harry Potter books a lot, and expect to enjoy the movie (which I plan to watch tomorrow.)

But I absolutely do *not* want to see Harry made into an animated show. There's no way they could maintain the quality of J.K. Rowling's stories in weekly episodes.

Just say NO, Joanne!

I bet WB is developing an animated series. I've never read any of the books or saw the movie, so I can't really judge it.

I am not a Harry Potter fan, tho I want to see this movie, but I just wanted to say the only way I'd want to see an animated series is if JK Rowling had full creative control over it. It not, forget it!

I can see the basic concept of Harry Potter working as an animated series, but I'd prefer to see a variation on the concept rather than Harry Potter itself.

An animated series you say? *thinks* I don't know what to think about that... it would be fun to watch (and I would certainly watch it!) but... I don't know...

Oh Yeah the harry Potter animated series is coming out. I makes me sick just thinking about it! :(

I can't see it working. It would most likely conflict with the story of the books, and they'd give all the characters the horrid stereotyped "jolly spiffing, tea-and-crumpets" English accent.

I like the Harry Potter books, but I can't imagine it as an animated series. If it is made however, I would like to see the team from Batman:TAS to work on it.

It could be worse though, they could give them American accents

That's true. I saw a commercial for a Harry Potter "Magic Battle Game" tonight. They gave Harry and his rival (Malofy?) american accents.

What about a show set in roughly the same universe but focused on a wizrad school in Salem or something?

Re the name of Harry's rival: it's Draco Malfoy, so Blight Man wasn't too far off.

BTW: Draco has a more prominent role in the book than he does in the movie. They had to leave a few things out to keep the running-time under six hours.

Well, if they make a series, then I'm renouncing Potter. I've been a big fan of the books, but I'm sad that Rowling has let all the merchandise in. It cheapens the universe, and I too am sick of seeing all of this Potter stuff.

...the movie was good, saw it last week. But I wish they concentrated less on the action and more on the classes and such. But, what do I know about marketing? :D

I really enjoy the books and I wan to see the movie, but when I saw all the merchandise, I said "Here's another thing that's gonna be merchandised to death." Now an animated series? The books and movie are good enough, WB.

It doesn't matter to the WB execs- they want the *Money.*

That's the whole reason they became execs.

The movie was really good and the merchandise is sometimes fun to look at, but I think that I would have been just as happy if they had just kept it how it started...as book. If they do make a series (which I pray they don't) I'm not gonna renounce Harry Potter, I'll just ignore all they excess hype and enjoy the books for what they are...no matter how cool the movies may be, they'll never compare to the books and the images you can create in your head.

Once again, another fad seems to be rolling in, just like with Pokemon.

How I hate "marketing."

I just wish that I could get the figures I want without going on ebay. Dumbledore came with two of the same arm, one of which is facing towards his back.

Oh well, lots of Snapes on the shelves Think "Snape in a Dress" would sell on ebay? My little sister wants me to make one for her, at any rate...

Snape in a dress?

Hey, it is in the 3rd book... meaning that Moony, nEVILle and JKR are really the ones to blame.

Sharklady
12-04-2001, 08:05 PM
I wouldn't say anybody is to 'blame'- the Snape-in-a-dress illusion was just a teaching method that Prof. Lupine used to boost Neville's confidence (folks who've read 'Prisoner of Azkaban' will know what incident I'm refering to.)

But I wouldn't count on that action figure being available before the third HP movie comes out.

I know no one's at 'fault'... I was just kidding. It's wonderful that I can draw an image like that from canon. :D

I'm making at least one Snape-in-a-dress figure on my own... :)

Personally, I doubt Mattel'd make one when PoA's out (supposedly 11/03)... The action figure line for movie 1 is Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, Invisible Harry, Quidditch Harry, Hagrid, Fluffy, Troll, Snape, Dumbledore, Draco with Remembrall, Quirrell, Voldemort (surprise figure not listed on back). No Nearly Headless Nick... :(

BTW, I have a theory on what's next for Snape-y in the books- if anyone's interested...

'Invisible Harry'??? Why would anybody buy an action figure they can't see?

> BTW, I have a theory on what's next for Snape-y in the books... <

You aren't close to being alone- since JKR dropped her "Keep an eye on Snape" comment in an interview, the whole HP fandom has been buzzing with theories. Among the more oft-repeated ones are that he's going to be carrying out dangerous spy missions against Voldemort, that he'll fall in love (prehaps with the next Defense Against Dark Arts teacher, who's rumored to be a woman), and that he'll die saving Harry's life, tho presumably not until Book 7- a big portion of HP's female fans will riot in the streets if he's snuffed any earlier (don't ask *me* why.)

Mattel's not that evil.. It's Harry in clear plastic. As Wizard Press noted, "Hate to break it to you, Harry, but we can see you."

My impression is that Voldemort doesn't trust Snape, but there's GoF's "faithful servant at Hogwarts"... As far as we know, Voldie doesn't know he's MIA, so there's an impersonation via polyjuice op there

The general impression I get from snapeslash and snapeharry(all fics take place when Harry's older) is that most picture him as looking like Trent Reznor(sp)... Oh, and that he and Quirrell were hot in the movie  I think Snape's awesome, but not sexy.

Warning: Importaint HP Spoilers Ahead

If you haven't yet read 'Goblet of Fire' but intend to some day, I strongly advise you not to read the text below.

Only JKR knows for sure, of course, but she has dropped some tantalizing hints. We know from the books that Snape is a reformed Death Eater. So the implication is that, in GoF, Voldemort was talking about Snape when, noting the gap in his circle of returned followers, he refered to one servant "who has left me forever. He will be killed, of course." Subsequent events indicate that his "faithful servant at Hogwarts" was Barty Crouch Jr.

The main reason fans think Snape is gonna use his insider's knowledge to spy on Voldemort is that scene near the end of GoF, when, having learned of the new threat from Voldemort, Dumbledore turns to Snape and says, "You know what I must ask you to do now." Snape looks shaken, but resolutely leaves to do it.
Of course, we must keep in mind that JKR could be throwing us a curve there (she's done it before)- Snape may have been sent on some mission other than the obvious one. Presumably, we'll find out in Book Five.

And I expect we'll also get some new mysteries to wonder about until Book Six.
