I wasn't too crazy with "Hawk Girl" or Wonder Woman's new flying ability. But overall I thought it was HALF-decent. Extremely unimpressive though. No new standards were set for this cartoon.

And did Batman look a little too blue??
Superman's voice is NOT Tim Daly??

What the hell is going on?

I thought Wonder Woman could always fly. And Daly was too busy to provide the voice work for Superman, hence the new voice actor - George Neubeurn.

Wonder Woman's flying ability is only "new" if you think fourteen years of it in her comic book series is new.

I was just blown away by JL this past Saturday. I've been a big fan of Timm since B:TAS and have followed him through to Batman Beyond. His animation style is sleak, fluent and crisp. In addition, I'm a huge fan of the JLA comic book, which made this a dream come true for me. I miss Grant Morrison's large storytelling ability in the JLA comic and am happy to see that Timm has decided to go with a more Morrison feel in this series with big stories, big action and big heroes. Anyway, here's my breakdown:

Batman: I enjoyed that they gave him more color by adding the rich purple tones to his cowl and cape. The longer ears were great, very much a homage to the original Batman. Also, he was slimmer and much more fluid. His movements were sharp. And his character, well he's the same loner, hiding in the shadows type detective that fans know and love.

Superman: I like his new facial design. He looked older than in the animated series. I feel this gave him more authority and definition. He seems a natural leader and optimist, as always.

Martian Manhunter: Clearly a standout character in "Secret Origins." His design was wonderful. But what I really liked about him was his voice. It seemed soft and full of sorrow. You really felt for him in this episode. I look forward to seeing him adapt to life on Earth. And if they ever kill off Supes, he'd make a natural leader of this team.

Flash: He was clearly the comic relief of the show. Some people I've talked to were put off by his humor but I loved it. I think he was funny and on point. His antics led to some real character defining moments for both Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.

Green Lantern: Every team needs a straight guy and you can't get more straight than this GL. I enjoyed his no-nensence attitude. Also, his design was beautiful. I esspecially liked his glowing eyes. He will make a great foil for Flash. I'm sure these two are going to be teamed up often.

Hawkgirl: I don't think we were told much about her to get a sense of her character, but one thing is for sure, she's a fighting machine. She seems like a female Wolverine to me. I also liked her design. Seeing her flying was an eye-catcher.

Wonder Woman: I've saved the best for last. Even before becoming a fan of Timm and JLA, I was a diehard Wonder Woman fan. Once I heard they were going to make her fresh off Paradise Island I was skeptical because next to Supes and Bats, she's the oldest hero there, and the most recoignized female hero in the world I might add. But I must say, I was impressed. When she challenged GL and was intrigued by Flash I knew she was in good hands. Her amazon spirit came out and so did her heart. She was very upset about the invasion and her first reaction was to help out, which she did in spades. Also, when Batman was supposed to be dead her emotion was seen clearly. It also didn't hurt that she got the best fight scenes in the episode. First, when she saved Hawkgirl, second when she made her own openning in the alien fortress, even impressing Batman might I add, and lastly when she stopped the mothership from escaping. She really stood out.

Okay, so I loved everything about the show really. Even the fact that they used an old plot didn't bother me because they did it with real style in my opinion. Just seeing these heroes together animated by Timm was a treat. :)
