There are many many games that are created these days that have the potential of sucking your life away, and I'm sure you guys have played them a lot. The question is what do you think is the most addicting one? Everquest? Ragnarok? Sims? Neverwinter Nights? Warcraft? Or are there others?

SW: KOTOR. I played non-stop for over 2 days with the occasional food and restroom break.

Simple, free and incredibly addictive.

Let's see. Of the RPGs I've played, I'd have to narrow the list to three:
Dragon Force: I had beat every scenario twice, and was on my way to beating them a third time when my brother sold his Saturn.
Morrowind: The game's electronic crack, and I played it religiously for over two months (and here's the kicker--I never even got into the story. I was too busy levelling up. >smiles<).
Warcraft III: I'm pretty sure I lost around ten or fifteen pounds from my WC3 kick. Food be damned. :D
Yeah, I get sucked into games too easily.

There have been many games I've played almost nonstop until I've beaten them. Most notable are probably Final Fantasys VIII, IX, and X-2, Earthbound, Xenogears, the various Pokemon games. Vice City's way up there too, but it's not an RPG.

Paper Mario. Not the gamecube one 'cause I haven't played it yet, but the first one. Dang, that was addicting. I can't put my finger on what was so awesome about it, but I never wanted to stop playing. The music is one of the game's strong suits, and sometimes I would turn on the game just to listen to the cheerful theme of Toad Town or the cool music of the Shiver Region. I stayed up for 8 hours playing it once, starting at 10:00 PM and ending at 6:00 AM. It took a lot of coke, but I did get through the night.
I haven't really played an rpg as addicting as it since then, which is why I look forward to getting the Thousnad Year Door.

Kingdom Hearts and KOTOR definitely. But there aren't many RPGs that aren't addicting unless (IMO) they suck.
I'm gonna call Matt's KH and KOTOR, but raise him a Front Mission 3, a Final Fantasy Tactics, and a Fallout 2. Those five games made hours seem like minutes to me.

Phantasy Star IV. I still can't beat it.

Final Fantasy VII. I've played RPGs since the dawn of computers, but that's the one I've spent the most time on and enjoyed the most. Sad, mainstream answer I'm afraid.
If we push the board to 3D RPG then Dungeon Master comes a VERY close second.

When I think of RPG addiction, I think of people endlessly leveling up. I despise levelling up, and have a hard time seeing why so many people find it so enjoyable.
But if we're talking about RPGs that you just can't put down, then I'll echo others and say KOTOR, Kingdom Hearts, and Morrowind. KOTOR and Kingdom Hearts have the "just one more stage, then I'll quit" effect, that makes you play much longer than you intend to. With Morrowind, I would always find something new to explore just as I was ready to quit, and would wind up playing for another few hours.
Considering these are all recent, there were probably a lot of games like this in the past that I'm just not remembering. I guess I played Crono Trigger endlessly as a kid.

I went without sleep for three days when I started playing FFT. It was school -> playing ->school -> playing -> school -> playing -> school -> totally unconcious.

Disgaea had me playing hours upon hours to improve my characters endlessly. You could level up to 9999 and then restart your character with added experience so they start off stronger and grow based off that. The amount of time you could spend on just raising one character is mindblowing.
When I got my Xbox for Christmas, I bought KOTOR the same day. I played it day in and day out during Christmas Break and finished it the next.
One game that I got addicted to, but didn't really care about was Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG of all time, and when I finally played the sequel, I was psyched. I bought it at the beginning of spring break for school and played it for four straight days. After I finished it though, I was disappointed in its quality. But that's a different story altogether.

The most time I ever spent playing a game was around 14 1/2 hours, with FFT. >bows down to Opaque's hardcore-ness<

I think it was Grandia II. It was the game that killed my Dreamcast after a 14-hour or so marathon when I had the flu a few years back.

Skies of Arcadia, ZOIDS: Legacy, and Shenmue II.... and KOTOR.
Shenmue II was the most addictive tho. Every waking moment I ran back to get into that world again.

Grandia (my first RPG) is at the top of my list. I usually hate leveling up; but I spent a lot of time doing it in Grandia because the magic system kicked butt (especially Feena's spells). The spells in Grandia are, IMO, some of the coolest RPG spell effects ever (though that may just be the nostalgia talking) ;)
I'm also a sucker for multiple endings. I played though Final Fantasy X-2 three times to get the 100% ending and I'm currently working on getting all the endings in Chrono Trigger. I LOVE Chrono Trigger despite the fact that the main character was as dull as a rock

I posted in the disappointing RPG thread... might as well balance that here.
Breath of Fire III - I loved everything about it. The music is excellent, the story is outside of the normal religious/gloom-and-doom stuff, and the characters were some of the best ever (Garr is still one of my favorites). Capcom also added a healthy dose of dragons and a nice Dragon Gene system, and that was the icing on the cake.
Shining Force III - I liked Final Fantasy Tactics, but Shining Force III had a few of the things that that FFT didn't. The battles were tougher, the characters had personalities, and Motoi Sakuraba's music made it all worthwhile. I didn't play the other two Shining Force games as much as I played the 3rd game. I'll never forgive Sega/Camelot for never translating the other two games in the series and leaving us with a cliffhanger ending. But the game is still one of my favorites.
Shining the Holy Ark - On the surface, the game was nothing more than an upgraded Shining in the Darkness. And, well... that's kinda what it was. But the game had a better story, had better characters (Go Basso!), and had better music (Go Sakuraba!). A couple of the battles were a bit too hard, and the battle frequency seemed to increase at the wrong times. I still had a lot of fun with it, though.
Breath of Fire - This was the first RPG I bought when I got my Super NES. I played it for hours at a time. I even skipped shool for a couple days just to stay home and play it (I was in high school at the time). The story and the characters had me hooked, but the music made me come back for more each time. Great game.

Come no guys you all have to admit it... Pokemon. Young and old gamers a like played the crap out of that Gameboy RPG and some of its sequels.
Chrono Trigger is rather addicting as well. It has lots of different endings to see and lots of different ways to do things.
Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy 7 are also quite hard to put down (at least until you beat them and GS wont take you long).

I'd say up to this time: Breath of Fire 1 and 2, FFVII, and FFX Chrono Trigger as well, however, I've barely even gone through half of the game, of what I've played of it. Oh, and FFVI.

lol All the FF games are addicting to me, and I will agree that pokemon was fun (though really easy) But the most addicting was, secret of mana. There was something about that game that kept me on it.

Chrono Trigger, definately. Skies of Arcadia's in my top five...same with Breath of Fire III

I loved Skies of Arcadia, but the battle system was boring and there were a ton of random battles. So even though I wanted to play a lot to see how the story would unfold, I would get so sick of playing through the battles that I would end up only playing a little bit at a time.

yeh, that happened to me too, but i also had to get off because my stoopid brother lent the dreamcast to a friend. who borrowed it for two years.
