From Toon Zone:
Futurama co-creator David X. Cohen will partner with Ice Cube to executive produce Grandmaster Freak & the Furious 15, an animated series about a 17-year-old hip-hop pioneer, MTV.com reports. The pilot is being developed as a potential series for Fox.
According to MTV.com, Ice Cube will provide a voice for the series, though not for the title character. Rough Draft Studios will animate.

Looking forward to this, but I hope it gets good treatment on Fox, u like Method & red. :crying: But, like with The Boondocks, Fox will probably just drop it.

Why does this not sound promising to me?

Because it will most likely turn out to be a stupid "gangsta" hip hop comedy full of black stereotypes about "gangstas" and full of "Foshizzle my nizzle" "Wazzup G" type of language:rolleyes:

SO that's what it was...

This will be very good, or very bad. That title is obviously a parody of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, in which it would be gramatically and lyrically correct like the Hip Hop of the Golden Age. Leading to this being very good if mixed with sufficient comedy. Still, on the internet, I'd expect alot more harsh reviews being as not many have an ear for Hip Hop....atleast not the stuff you'll see on MTV(which this will hopefully steer away from), and haven't cared to believe there can be good.
Despite that though, Samurai Champloo is Hip Hop influenced and it's great and the internet, good majority, can look past their distaste for Hip Hop. Which is what I'd hope would be accomplished here.

Yeah, what's up with people on here mad when shows with black charecters talk "gangsta", as you say. They use the word gangsta and automatticly you hate the show. WTF.

I wasn't defending that...but it wouldn't be hard to find an answer.

Same reason shows like "Daboom Crew" & "Rocket Power" suck. They use words like "dude", "beefed" and a bunch of other cheesy slang noone ever uses!

It's not the fact that the word is hated, it's just that it's often OVER USED.

People say dude. Skaters and people who do extreme sports say "beefed", not just everybody. Because everybody doesntuse it, most people seem like its wrong.
Over-used. OK, I can go with that. But, is there that many cartoons that use this. No. But, comedys, yes.
Cohen worked on Futurama, and Ice Cube's film credits include non-stereotypical fare such as Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. (In addition to stereotypical fare as well) So I have hope that it may be a bit smarter than your average hip-hop influenced comedy.

And Three Kings. More people need to see Three Kings.
I think there's potential for this series. It's a premise that hasn't been done before in an animated series (or, if it has been done, it hasn't been done in a way that leaves an impression). As Beatdigga points out, Cohen and Ice Cube have enough credability for me to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Although, I also agree with Zach that Fox will probably drop it quickly, whether the show is good or not.

I won't bash until I see (that is IF we get to see) it. But if it's anything like "Method n Red" or "Snoopvizzletellyvizzle" or whatever that show's lame name was, then just cancel it now please.

racisismPretty dang much.
Spongebrain do you have ANY logical reasoning why this would probably be a stereotypical show? Other than the fact that Ice Cube is a black rapper? You're making a lot of nasty unfounded assumptions based on a show that doesn't even have a title yet. I find it a little bit offensive.

Yes, you're right.
Anyway, It does have a name "Grandmaster Freak & the Furious 15". It doesnt have a plot though, so its way too early to be judging it.

I notice that a lot of times people bash dialogue just because they personally don't use it. I remember when the Sailor Moon dubs used the phrase "wicked cool" people bashed it saying that people never use the word wicked. Well, actually, in New England, that phrase is quite common, and if I was writing a show I would probably put the phrase "wicked cool" in without even realizing that some people might not talk that way, I mean, I use the word wicked in my every day speech as a synonym for very. It's quite possible that a writer would use the words dude and beef in their every day speech and would not realize that some people don't talk that way. Just because YOU talk a certain way doesn't mean everyone talks that way. I don't think you should bash a show just because the people in the show don't talk exactly like you.
My only problem is when a show has one black character that they make talk differently than the white people on the show(X-Men Evolution). Anyway, yeah, I'll probably check this show out when it comes on.

One thing I'm wondering is if that's just a name, or if they're really going to try and make 15 supporting characters. That'd be quite a challenge.

What's with the Haturade?
Da Boom Crew sucks because the acting sucks.
Method & Red was watchable because the comedy was pretty well-juiced. The performers were arguably as charismatic on screen as they are in real-life, and it survived the otherwise lame scripts.
I can't include PJs, since it's far more reserved with respect to "ghetto slang". At least, I never remembered it as a hard-core, urban comedy. Then again, neither is Da Boom Crew.
Proud Family is a lame animated UPN sitcom first, and an urban comedy second :)
Static Shock is far too dignified to be measured alongside the aforementioned shows.

Hopefully if it DOES make it to TV it'll be promising, but I guess we gotta see if it can get past FOX and its fickle programmers first.

I wonder if it will carry the same character designs as Futurama???

That'd be cool, but I think that would only happen if it were by Matt Groening.
The most ironic thing about this thread is the show takes place in the early 80s........before all that "gangsta talk" slang existed.
So instead of a middle aged writer who knows zip-zero about hip hop having the characters say "fo rizzle"...they'll probably be saying "fresh" and "cold chillin'".
Also, Ice Cube wasn't in Ghost Dog.

You're right...I was thinking of Forest Whitaker.
Still though, Three Kings. Go see Three Kings.
