View Full Version : Something Winx Club Fans Will Like - English (Non 4Kids) Video Clips

I know we've attracted a good amount of fans of Winx Club here, and I found something that I think fans should definitely check out- English clips of Winx Club that are not the 4Kids version, but rather based off Rainbow's Italian version, and then translated into English. It uses completely different voices and music from the 4Kids series. A warning though - some clips are from future episodes, but there doesn't appear to be any really, really big spoilers in them. Here is the link:

In addition to German and Italian clips, English Non-4Kids clips are under the UK flag and "Englisch" and include longer transformation sequences for each girl than we get in the 4Kids version. The BGM sounds like something that Musa would like, probably done intentionally. The transformation theme is used every time, and since so many of them are available, you'll probably be sick of it by the time you view every one. :)
The best part of these video clips, though, is located at the bottom of the page. The last two are marked "Preview" and are from Episode 2, so there's no danger of spoilers. I think you'll view the U.S. version quite differently after hearing another set of V.A.s act out the scene, either positively or negatively.
It's not very often we get two different sets of V.A.s in the same language for any particular animated series. This brings up an interesting question. Why did 4Kids go to all the trouble of recording new voices and music? I know some of the music sounds like it has a heavy accent in these scenes, but couldn't they have used an instrumental version intead? My personal thoughts is that I like Tecna's voice in the English Rainbow version better, even though it is radically different. To me, Flora's voice sounds the most similar between the two versions. However, 4Kids did a much better job on the villainesses IMO. In their version, they sound nasty, mean, and sinister, like they truly want to cause serious harm to the Winx girls. Here, they sound like they're just there to bother the girls and nothing more.

Well, that's kinda wierd concidering (Outside of Wales and that's in welsh so that doesn't count) there has been NO broadcast of Winx club on any UK channel, Digital Satalite or otherwise. :\
It's not that I patulary care, (I've been excedenly jaded with how Shojo type series are shown here since the fox kids incident) but still.

Hmm, maybe I'm just a bit impatient, but none of the current Winx Club fans are interested in at least trying to see and hear the differences between the 4Kids English version and Rainbow's version?

Wait, so what country is the Winx Club from, exactly?

I. Hate. Dialup.
I'm no fan, and I'm VERY curious to see how our European sisters handle this otherwise hopeless enterprise ;)

I've been interested ever since I started downloading episodes of the show on eMule. I've got episodes 1-16, and 24-26 in Italian, and episode 1 in German, along with all the English episodes aired on Fox so far on tape.
I've noticed quite a few changes in not just the diction, but the animation itself, too. From 4Kids covering up Stormy's undies (hah), to them changing a scene in a former episode where Musa casts a spell on Icy so she got a wart (in the Italian version Musa actually slapped Icy in the face! )
I'll probably order a few of the DVD's from DVD.it. It'd be interesting to see the episodes with the different voices and any other misc. changes Rainbow makes. :)

Would love to, but don't have an Internet connection at all. That, and my computer and speakers are really old... I'd have trouble seeing and hearing it.

I was reading something a little while ago. The italian english dub is the same as the original italian version. The 4kids versions changed scenes and dialog so it would be more suitable for a younger american audience. Which explains the cutting out of romantic scenes and also references to blooms real parents so kids don't become to "emotional" watching it. As for me, I'm 17, I want the real deal and I'll probably order the italian DVD's offline so I can get thier english dub.

I have seen this other English dub a while ago. I think 4kids voices are better but this other dub is uncut so I like it more.
