There were a lot of "documentary" cartoons shown tonight.

I saw the list that was featured last night, but I need to know the title of one in particular. I didn't catch the title and none of the listed titles seem familiar or look like they would "fit."
Anyone know exactly which title it was that had the book characters coming to life and dancing around? One of the first things shown was the Phantom of the Opera and Frankenstein (plus two others... can't remember exactly) doing a cute synchronized dance number.
Oui, I am a hardcore Phantom collector. Plus, this Phantom looks and acts almost exactly the way I've known and loved him for 26 years. :D :D :D
I must know the title and find where it can be purchased on video or DVD!

Doctor Faustus, that cartoon is Frank Tashlin's 1938 "Have You Got Any Castles?"
The amazing thing to me was that it was shown uncut, as far as I could tell.
I was walking past my kid's room and saw the Fats Waller-ish trumpet player and I froze in my tracks - I haven't seen that part of this 'toon in years!
BTW Emmanuel, what did they cut out of "Weakly Reporter"?

In WEAKLY REPORTER, I think they cut out several scenes dealing with Nazi soliders. Watching that edited version makes me sick. All the abrupt fades outs after, like, every scene gets on my nerves.

Amen, brother, that's why I don't watch CN all that much anymore....
The Weakly Reporter used to have little bridging sequences with stick figures between every blackout gag. Some still remain, but all of the ones with Nazis (where swastikas are shown) have been removed.

If you didn't see the portly town crier at the beginning (Alexander Woollcott), it wasn't.

I was only referring to the caricatures in the "Swing For Sale" segment - I didn't see the whole cartoon.
If you would, refresh my memory - didn't Woolcott himself ask to be edited out of this cartoon?

I believe so, the Woolcott scene was removed when the cartoon was reissued theatrically. So last night you saw the most uncut version that has been available since the 40s or so.
