Smallville #4-5 "Run"
After Jonathan's (John Schneider) wallet is stolen, Clark (Tom Welling) super-speeds after the thief (guest star Kyle Gallner) but is stunned when he cannot catch him. The thief, Bart, a.k.a. The Flash, later shows up at the farm and tries to talk Clark into leaving Smallville for a life on the road together, flexing their super powers. Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) buys a priceless framed manuscript with Kryptonian symbols and Clark learns that it contains a mysterious hidden map. However, when Bart steals the manuscript from Lex, he inadvertently puts Clark's life in danger and must make the decision whether to save Clark or himself.
Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack, John Glover, Jensen Ackles, Annette O'Toole also star. David Barrett directed the episode written by Steven S. DeKnight.

This was a fantastic episode, especially as a comic book fan.
Sure, it's not the same Flash we know, but it was still great to see him with Clark.
Lots of comic references, too... "Jat Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West... whatever your name is...", Bart's "I'm from the future..." and "we could start a club or league or somethin'...."
And there's nothing more classic than a Superman vs. Flash race.
Led into a nice sentimental ending.

It was great to see Impulse...er, I mean "Flash" show up. I think they did a pretty good job with him too, he had the same hair and mannerisms as his comic counterpart and even though it was a cheezy pick-up line I loved when he said he was from the future. :)
Other than seeing Bart brought to life I thought this was a decent episode, the high points being Lana confessing her mystic tattoo and Lex still keeping things from Clark.

Holy Crap, that was actually pretty good.
I expected the worst after hearing this Flash news, primarily because having Bart Allen in lieu of any of the other Flashes didn't make much sense to me. That, and I was seriously afraid that he'd get his power from the meteor rocks. Ugh.
Thankfully, neither one of those ended up being an issue. Clark's surprise at how Bart's powers didn't come from Smallville was pretty funny, and we got a nice little allusion to the Speed Force. Meanwhile, I understand the choice to make the Flash Bart a little better now. If this whole "juvenile delinquent" take on the character was the one they wanted to use, Bart's really the only Flash that could have supported it. It would be hideously out-of-character for Barry, Jay, or Wally. It's still not totally in-character for Bart, but it's close enough. Admittedly, I'm a bit miffed at the idea of Bart being the one and only Flash, but hey, that's a small gripe at most.
The effects work was really good right up until the very end, when we got those shots of Clark and Bart moving regular-speed while the scenery blurred by... those looked kinda lame. But the speed trails were really good. And the end, regardless of some shoddy-looking effects work, was pretty strong.
Nice to see Lex kick some butt.
The only real strike against this episode was the subplots. The bits with Lana and the manuscript moved this season's story forward a bit, but they were pretty boring overall. And I couldn't care less about Martha's scenes. Still, for an episode of a traditionally dissappointing series, this was surprisingly good and gets a solid A+ from me.
The comic references were great, especially the "We should start a league or something" bit. I was waiting for that one...

My dad stupidly messed up the timer I had set to record this episode. When does it reair for God's sake? Not that anyone knows, at least I doubt they do, but I'm so freakin' ticked off about this. I could quite literally kill things.

Y'know, as much as comics fans rail on Smallville for "Dawson's Creek"-izing the DCU, these are the types of character relationships you just can't get in comics.
Just imagine when Clark and Bart meet each other again, as Superman and the Flash. The look in their eyes and the knowing grins.
Sure, we'll probably never see that scene, but it's a wonderful emotional subtext for the characters.

Best
Smallville
Ever
I was worried I was getting my hopes up for nothing, but this episode exceeded all expectations.
Loved the 'I'm from the future' pick up line. I hope the rumors are true that they're already planning on bringing Bart back later this season. And I really hope this leads to a Flash spinoff series.

It was pretty understanding. Though, there were times when I just wanted to throttle Bart. Strangely enough, this is the first time I've had that inclination since I started reading about the character. Most people get very annoyed with him very quickly. I see they're sticking with using clothing colors to indicate the future for these characters. Bart's red sweatshirt and the lightning bolts on his belt and backpack were about as obvious as Clark's continual use of the red/blue/yellow color scheme for his wardrobe. The manuscript thing was a little boring. I do like how Lana revealed the truth to her new beau. We also got a little more insight into him when he mentioned that his parents kept secrets all the time.
I don't know, I think it would have worked for Wally too. At least, a Wally who didn't have Uncle Barry and Aunt Iris to straighten him out. Wally's relationship with his real parents wasn't very good. There have also been times, especially in his youth, when he acted like a bit of a jerk. So, I could definitely see Wally acting out or being a runaway like our new TV Flash is.
The comic references were great, especially the "We should start a league or something" bit. I was waiting for that one...
Yeah. Isn't Clark going to be surprised when he comes back with a Martian in tow. :D Though, when Clark asked him where he was going, I wanted him to say something like "I've got a cousin in Central City, maybe I'll crash with him for a while."

Not fair!
In the Detroit area . . . we've been pre-empted for pre-season Piston's basketball! :(

Three Words: Flash is hot!!!
This week rocked. I really enjoyed it. My favorite scene was when Flash and Clark were racing at the end. I thought Clark was fast!

Fantastic. Just...great stuff. Funny, I had tried, just for fun, to pause and see if any Flash identities appeared on the I.D.s, but it was too blurry, but to my pleasant surprise, Clark ended up reading them out loud. Loved it. Didn't mind so much that his name was Bart, especially since I don't read The Flash to begin with.
No mention of getting powers from Kryptonite. Good.
Lana subplot....interesting if I was interested in Lana, but I'm really kinda not.
Let's just concentrate on the fact that every scene with Clark and Bart was cool, especially the last one. Allen truly is the Fastest Man Alive.
Fun Fact: I paused the scene where he runs out of the barn and played it frame by frame. It looks remarkably like the Flash. Heck, I dare say it is the Flash.
BUT...my tape ran out before next week's preview. Anything good?

The best part about the Flash episode was that he didn't get his speed from Kryptonite like everyone around here was saying. He was the real Flash, even if there's never been a "Bart" Flash.
According to next week's preview, Clark switches bodies with Lionel.
   That's gonna be NUTS!! And I know I'm right...they showed "Clark" frenching Chloe, punching Lana's lights out, etc...

Fantastic episode, and I love the fact that they made The Flash faster than Superman. Because if the Flash isn't faster, then who needs him? Loved the league reference.

Great episode.
The reason they couldn't use the other variations of Flash. Is that Warner wouldn't allow it. The only one they could use is Bart Allen (aka Impulse or Kid Flash).

I'm still good with them useing this flash other then the others...not that I would know :P.
It was acutally a lot better then I thought it would be, the ending speed scene was really off beat, but other then that it was a great episode.

According to the preview Clark and Lionel Luthor switch bodies
This was a great episode. Wish I had taped it. I'd pretty much mirror the comments from others, so I'll leave it at that. I just hope that the Smallville crew doesn't go overboard with introducing future heroes or characters too early. The only other one they should do is a young Bruce Wayne and that's it. I played with the idea of a Green Lantern or a Martian Manhunter, but I think they should stay away from the space characters.

I think having Hal Jordon would be cool. He wouldn't have to have the ring yet.

I was thinking that it might be cool to have Kyle Rayner on the show. He could be like an imaginitive 13 year old kid who wants to get out of Smallville and become a comic book artist. Then, one night, in what Clark thinks is another meteor shower like the one that brings him to Earth, a green ring falls from the sky. Kyle then tries to use the ring in order to make his dreams come true and get his Mom and his friends everything they ever wanted, but he gets in deeper and deeper trouble as he goes. In the end Kyle realizes that he's not using the ring for the right reasons. At the end of the episode, a very human looking GL (no one in particular) comes down to Earth to retrieve the ring and tells him he isn't ready for it . . . yet.
Just an idea I had.

Great episode. I was only missing Lois when Bart wasn't on-screen.:D
Bart's pick-up line to Chloe was awful and funny at the same time.
Lana, Lana, Lana. Why don't you just LEAVE already?
Lex refusing to kill the kid who stole from him. Why do I feel Bart used up what will probably be the tail end of Lex's mercy?
No Lois or Lionel. Sigh.
A really cool episode. Gotta run. ****1/2.
