Howdy all,

Did anybody else catch all the references to old sci-fi movies or stories in the first ep of Justice League? The ones I caught:

1. "J. Alan Carter" is, I think, a reference to Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars" character, who was kind of like Tarzan on another planet.

2. The alien war machines were references to the Martian invaders from H.G. Wells' _The War of the Worlds_, which were giant tripods with a heat ray.

3. The scene where the Imperium's ship enters Earth's atmosphere looked kind of like the similar scene from _Independence Day_.

I didn't catch any more, though that might be because my cable opted to cut out a bunch of times during the broadcast. Grumble.

Independence Day did pop into my mind, when the mom said "oh my lord" and you saw the spaceship's shadow covering up the city.

STAR WARS!!! Listen to the sounds of the lasers. Look at the way those things move around, just like an AT-AT walker...

Jay Alan Carter is also a reference to the Golden Age versions of the Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), and Hawkman (Carter Hall).

And in the end credits one of the supporting characters is named "General Wells."

They probably both are correct.
