I'm going to buy a good pocket knife soon, but need some help with the laws in place in my State. Does anyone know what kind of things the law prohibits when it comes to concealable pocket knives?

Things like maximum blade length, what kind of material it can be made of, whether it can fold, etc.

This is an akward question to ask over the internet in this day and age, but it'd be nice to get some information.

Knife Laws of the 50 States. (http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/sta-law.htm)

And a somewhat more in-depth look at the knife laws of California in particular. (http://www.equalccw.com/knifelaw.html)

Google loves you.

If Chimera is anything like me, he's planning on using his knife to fight off sabretooth tigers on the way to class each day. No shame in that.

Don't forget drunken hobos. Their broken lives and shattered dreams can cut you to bloody shreds if you get too close.

And thanks for the help. Anybody here have a personal favorite that I might look into? I've never really looked into this and don't know where to start. I'm looking for a knife geared more towards utility and convenience, if that helps.

that was really necessary. I'm guessing from that remark, you'd snub them if they asked you for help... much like the way I'm snubbing you now.

Boy are those babies helpful.

I've got a simple Victorinox already. I don't have it on me, but i believe it's this one: http://www.victorinox.com/newsite/en/produkte/taschen/inhalt2.cfm?pid=1-3703

edit: Mine has a screwdriver instead of a corkscrew, but otherwise it's the same.

It could be better, and I wouldn't trust if for woodland survival or combat or something like that. That's why I'm planning on getting something more durable or more powerfull.

And I didn't mean anything with that hobo comment, jeez. I'm pretty poor myself, and I give money when I can.

Make absolutely sure you don't bring it with you on a plane, or you'll be stopped. I was going to a wedding with my brother and sister and my brother wasn't able to board the plane because he had a pocketknife in his backpack that he forgot to take out. So, I wouldn't leave it any bag that you travel with a lot or you might forget about it and bring it with you to the airport.

For a time, I was carrying a dagger-like knife in my inside pocket. Double-edged, damn sharp point, all around 3mm thick...
The best thing I did was smuggling it into the courthouse (some bastard mugged me BEFORE I had the knife - and the police caught him) - I had one of those military backpacks with a lot of metal loops and buckles and stuff, so I palmed the knife from my jacket to the backpack. All in front of the guard. My luck is ridiculous.
Now I have to figure out how to carry it on my person so I can draw it quickly and counterattack. The standard velcro pouch is to be worn on belt.

Unless you happen to be Brandon Boyd. Then you at least get to perform a concert before being dragged away to jail. (-:
