View Full Version : Who On This Board Have You Met/Know in Real Life?

Just a quick question. I'd like to know if many people know each other in real life on this board (i.e. they've met in person). The only ones I know that knew each other were Conekiller and shogunthethird.
I haven't met anybody personally, but maybe I'm not just "in the loop".

Nope, never met anyone here. Several are from the same city I'm from, but still no.
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, copy & paste this in your signature.
There's an inflated figure....

I haven't met or know anybody from this board in real life. There's one person that lives in the city where I go to college in, but it's not like I know the person to the point that I would say "Hey, you're in the same city as I. Let's meet or something."
Oh and for the record it's Mekairinek.

heh... don't feel bad. I don't think there is a "loop". I haven't met anyone either. I respect everyone here, but I wouldn't go so far as to call anyone my friend. I'd have to know someone WELL to consider meeting.

I don't think there's a "loop" here either. Unlike the other message board I frequent. It seems everyone there except me and two or three others lives in either NYC or the Bay Area in CA. They all know each other.

The only person I met is Inque, who used to post here. I met 10 people separately from another board I used to frequent though. I think the problem is that we all live so far from each other (Or at least from me. I'm from Canada, eh?)
No one. And I doubt I ever will, no because I don't want to, but because I live so far, far away...

I don't believe I've ever met another TZ'er in real life (including my fellow Floridians). I might be able to find some of you folks if I tried but alas, motivation is hard to come by these days.
No one really. But I've talked to a ton of people on AIM. We should have a convention... at my house.Nice idea, but I'm afraid we're all too spread out along the globe to get even a fraction of everyone at the same place. Maybe if it were done along regional or by state basis (a la TZ Con Northeast, TZ Southeast, TZ NY, TZ Cali, TZ U.K, ect) then maybe something could happen with respect to geography. Still, getting all California delegates in the same place would be a logistical pain.
OT: I used to live in Brooklyn, and I still have a good amount of family living there. I might be able to make it to Blue Wolf Con if it's a holiday. :D

Blue Wolf Con is every day, but December 8th Scott Kurtz is doing a signing near my bathroom while artist Jim Lee will be selling some of his artwork in order to raise money for me to get Simpsons Season 4 on DvD. Seriously though it does seem like there are a lot of TZers in the North East, so having it in the Tristate or PA wouldn't be that bad an idea and then again we can have multiple regional TZcons.

I have never met anyone on this site and I think I'm one of the very few who live in Colorado. The closest people I can think of that are near this state are TucsonCoyote and Purplehairedwonder. And I wonder why there are more eastcoast members?

I've known 2 TZers. A friend showed Toon Zone to me and another friend. He quit coming though because he said he shouldn't have to wait till halfway thorough a show before it gets cool and got in arguments with people. My other friend just lost interest.
There are a couple people I think would be interesting to meet with if TZ con ever actually happened.

I always thought it would be cool to meet people I know from message boards, but I wouldn't go out of my way to suggest meeting up or anything. I don't think anyone here lives that close to where I live anyway.
There is a slight possiblity I've seen some people from Toonzone, if they live in New Jeresy. But I don't really know any of them in real life.
I have chated with some on AIM, but that's about it. Although, Samurai Karasu and I have chatted using AIM's voice feature before.

Let's see. I've met one poster who is my friend's brother, Taylor. I forget his screenname on here. Before I went off to England for this semester, I met up with Inque (former poster) and Outlander00. About the same time, I managed to call catz (another former poster) as well as redDragon. I had planned on meeting up with Bleu Unicorn, but she couldn't hitch a ride down, unfortunately. Lots of fun on the phone. Since coming over the pond, I've managed to meet SJJ and Salvore. There's a possibility that I might meet up with Kylewayne over the summer, depending on where we spend our individual vacations.
Although i never met anyone, I got a real written letter from a toonzoner..Most of the people here are very good people, we bridge the gap from teenager to much older..In general, there is common respect here, not found elesewhere..I would love to meet and see some of the people I communicate with..I did have a chance to meet someone once and blew it..my fault..A real fine person, who I just didn't follow thru on...maybe next time..I hope that everyone hangs in there during these difficult times, and sticks with the zone..Stuart:)

Ayato, the president of my local anime club is here on rare occasions. I've also met Knux Five as I ravished his comic shop.
I was hoping to meet up with Emerald Archer in DC, but he decided that last week would be a great time to get very sick.
Similar to oldtoonguy correspondence, I sent sumpin to, and recieved a very nice card from EinBebop. One of these days, when I get around to it, I'll mail off Westlanders birthday present. And Fray and I sent EA a joint birthday bear. :D

Nope, never met anyone from TZ. I know there are some that habitate out here in southern cal, just haven't had the opportunity to get to know many of them, and haven't had one of those running into each other circumstances. I knew Delia97 and Sailor Chibi Otaku before we all joined Toon Zone, but I have never met either one of them in person - but I'd love to meet them sometime. :) Chibi and I were penpals for a few years; I believe I met her through the penpal listings in Metal Edge magazine. I met Delia through some of the Men in Black: The Series mailing lists; she is now a moderator on my list, MIB-TheSeries (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/MIB-TheSeries).

Actually meeting only three - Barb Gordon on several occasions, The Guitarslayer (regularly at the moment) and Salvor. All of which are great people. I've chatted to several on the phone - Frozen (in the "we all thought he was dead" period of TZ history), Harley and Kylewayne. Sort of Nightflower too via webcam and speakers.. not quite the same as meeting people in the flesh....
Who would I like to meet? Well aside from those I've spoken to on the phone (see above), certainly The Flash and Bird Boy since I work with both and have enjoyed their friendship immensely. Silverknight would be amusing (is she as cranky in real life? :p), Outlander (I breathe a sigh of relief when waxing politics with him - his angle is very similar to mine, I like that in an American! :D) and oh god, so many I could list! I could just throw names at you! Bud, Maxie, Jim Harvey, red Dragon, Nightwing, AS, Fray, Clayface, BY1 etc etc etc etc etc..

Twage
Zmanjz
Duke
Weatherman
Solitude1
lheiskell
That's happens when you hit the East Coast for a con as a Toon Zone Reporter. Btw, all those people are very cool in person, but Solitude1 get bonus points for being cool enough to hang out in the middle of downtown Baltimore at two in morning, talking about anime, while still in his (very well made) Gravitation cosplay. Twage gets bonus points for talking me into getting what turned out to be a pretty funny little Cowboy Bebop doujinshi (he also gets bonus points for translating it for my Japanese illiterate self.) Weatherman gets bonus points for letting me stay an extra few hours at his place since I missed my flight out of town the monday after con. Zmanjz and Duke get bonus points because they were just cool folks to talk too. lheiskell probably doesn't even realize it was me at the Funi booth @ otakon, pestering him about Gunslinger Girl, but he gets bonus points for giving me a fairly straight answer about stuff.

Well, I met Brian on the precursor to TZ, the WBC, over 9 years ago...
We've met Romey (DarkWarner), Craig Marinaro, Craig Crumpton, Clayface, Matt Williams, Maxie Zeus, Alex Weitzman, Barb Gordon. (I hope I'm not missing anyone.) I've also spoken with Tim, SJJ and Twage on separate occasions.
I demand snowglobes from all of them.
Ditto what Karl said. That was so much fun. We've gotta do it again at a con that sucks less. :p See, I went to Otakon to try it out, so now no one can say I'm an uninformed AX fanboy! Now I'm an AX fanboy who knows Otakon sucks.
Plus sterfish, who drops in occasionally, is the ex-president of my university anime club. And Alex Weitzmann and I went to AX '02 together. Who else... I think that's it. One of these days I am heading o'er to NY to hang with the big cheeses. Maybe when I have a free weekend... (looks up calendar for 2012)

I ran into Brian Cruz at this year's Comic-Con. I approached him because he had "Toonzone" written on his badge (a great idea that I later copied :D ). Sadly, I didn't have much time to talk to him because the DC panel was starting.
I think that, next time a big con rolls around, it would be a cool idea if all TZ members wrote "toonzone" on their badges. It would be a neat way to meet other members. :)
