The below "SCALP TROUBLE vs. SLIGHTLY DAFFY" thread inspired me to do this, plus, I just watched NOTES and OP-ROAR earlier today. Which one do you you prefer - NOTES TO YOU the original, or BACK ALLEY OP-ROAR, the remake?

Though NOTES TO YOU is great, I personally like BACK ALLEY OP-ROAR a little better. Elmer's the main character in the remake instead of Porky, and the cat is Sylvester instead of the one-shot cat. There are some funnier gags added in, like when Elmer runs down the stairs and steps on the tacks left on the floor. The ending was handled a little better, too. I also like that scene with the singing fat, orange cat.

What do you prefer?

I actually grew up watching "Notes to You" and I also grew to like it. So I voted for that one.

While I also like "Notes to You," I think "Back Alley Op-Roar" is a much better cartoon. Freleng really lumbs on some great gags. The scene with the dopey orange cat has got to be one of the greatest scenes ever put into a cartoon. The setting a bit more open and detailed, as well.

Back Alley Op-Roar was probably one of the first cartoons that I ever recognized as particulary *great.* When I saw the opening scene of Sylvester climbing onto the fence, I snapped to attention.

I prefer "Back Alley Oproar". It's different enough from "Notes To You", and Sylvester carries it very well. I never cared one way or the other for "Notes to You", because of the cat...who cares about him? He has very little personality except just obnoxious. And Porky is too strong/smart a character, as opposed to Fudd who is just dumb and unlucky enough to have a cat outside who wants to bother him. Sylvester's lisping voice also adds a funny element, and the operatic orange cat, the tacks-on-the=stairs gag with all the funny sound effects...yes, "Back Alley Oproar" wins hands down!

If Sylvester was the only reason to prefer BOO, I'd say BOO hands-down. But it isn't; there's all that has been said & more. The remake factor can be overlooked here. No question about it: Back Alley Op-Roar.
