-Random...voice weirdness from Buggy...sucks...
-Thank goodness that there wasn't TOO much circus music
-"Blast 'em! Blast 'em! Do it! Do it!" is a very catchy chant, and I don't know why... >_>
Good ep., didn't see any noticable edits(then again, I've never seen the orignal...)

Great episode.....again......like every other week. Sucks that Nami has Tiff's voice from Kirby, but I sorta got used to it.

Although I've seen this episode before, this was my first exposure to One Piece dubbed.
I've got to say it's not really that bad. The voices seem to work well and the storyline is left intact. Buggy's voice was actually pretty good, and I found it interesting for 4Kids to actually show Zolo being stabbed in the back. I mean sure I didn't see any wound, but the fact that they showed it was rather surprising.
Was it just me or did they just play the scene where Buggy threw his knife at Luffy in reverse (making it show that it is deflected)?

chopchop fruit? thats weirder then even Buggy himself lol. poor Zolo his first chance to look cool in awhile and he get cheap shotted. Nami was pretty predictable and not to nice but she will be good soon I bet :) a lot of strange stuff though like not seeing Luffy get away from the bird or that sword bouncing off him?

Awesome. It's pretty cool that they left Zolo being stabbed in, even though they didn't show the result. I'm guessing fruits are theme in this show.
Man, I'm starting to like this theme song.

He missed his vitals... Did they really need to say that? Bah... The edit was fine but adding that line just cornified the whole scene.
Good episode overall.
Buggy is Ted Lewis right? Sure sounds like him. I really want our boy Mike to voice him but the current VA is okay.
I do believe that was Sinterniklaas getting choked at the begining.
Speaking of which... Buggy's got Jedi powers.
You're right they left out the sign pointing at Luffy saying Rubber Man. That was funny stuff and didn't require removing. Of course they'd need to change the text to English but it still would have been funny.

Buggy shows off one of his skills... Dang that is one mean pirate and I am impressed, I was a bit spooked by the Star Wars Choke Hold move. I did enjoy watching this episode and I am eager to see the next one. Based on the preview, looks like Buggy wants a rematch. Zolo is still a very cool character, IMO, even though they edited out that sword stab. It is very nice of them to leave the after effect of that stab in. As for Nami... Meh I guess her VA is alright. It was neat how she stopped that burning fuse though, tough gal.
Here are a couple of not so random images from the show.

Hmm, interesting.
Cool shot of Buggy going banzai crazy as he attacks Zolo. (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Temp/buggyvszolo.jpg)
I don't get how can Nami conceal that staff weapon. (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Temp/weapon.jpg) Sure it's in three pieces, but her mini skirt is already short...

I could have sworn Lisa Ortiz voiced Nami. I can only expect Sanji played by Eric Stuart,Ussop by Ted Lewis, and Don Kreig by Wayne Grayson attempting Marlon Brando. He is "The Don" after all.

Except of course Buggy pointed out that Zoro was not wounded in a vital area in the Japanese version as well, in fact it was from the manga. You can't assume 4Kids is always meddling with the show's content. As Freud said "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.".

You sure about that? I don't think that was the case but I haven't read that part of the manga in months. It's entirely possible that was how it was though.
I don't assume 4kids ruins everything. That was just a typical sounding 4kids added line to tone the situation down.

Ted Lewis as Ussop... I think I'd rather have Sinternilkaas (though that wouldn't be much better). Don Kreig Marlon Brando style could be interesting I wonder if Grayson could pull that off convincingly. Eric Stuart would be alright for Sanji if he used a natural voice. I almost think Sam Regal would be good for the job but he sounds a little too high pitched for Sanji perhaps.

Sean Schemmel as Usopp all the way!
the quote directly form the Viz translation right after Buggy stabs Zoro and announces the fruit he's eatten.
"Roronoa Zoro! You never had a chance! Looks like I missed your vitals... but you still took a serious wound!"

Man, I'm starting to like this theme song. Yeah, sometimes they do a really good job on these dub-only opening themes, even though you're still weeping inside for the loss of the original. Back in the day, I liked the CardCaptors theme too, but the CCS themes are so much better.
It's funny how Luffy's pirate crew so far is two people who hate pirates. Though somewhat fitting, since I'm guessing they'll be doing a lot of fighting other pirate crews and very little actual piracy.

1. Now that we've heard more of her voice:
a. I prefer Nami's voice when she's pretending to act cute than her normal voice. :ack:
b. Now I know what her voice reminds me of! Prepare to be scared - it's that annoying Rebecca in Yugi-Oh!
2. "Robber knows," "mi-stake"........ nice puns.
3. The chop-chop fruit........ the Force is strong in that one. :)
4. Grapefruit punch? And how did Zolo know Nami's name? Eavesdropping? :D
5. Why was Nami bowing to apologize to Buggy? There ain't no Japanese customs here! :p
6. "Miss [Zolo's] vital organs...." They should've at least shown a rip on Zolo's shirt.
7. Luffy calling Buggy a freak --> pot kettle black. :D
Torn Apart Fruit sounded so much cooler.

No, it doesn't. It doesn't roll off the tongue.
I'm sure the police likes to call them car thieves "torn apart" operations too. :p

Kinky. :anime:
Though there is a "secret slot" even hidden under a short short min-skirt, y'know. Perfect for cylindrical sticks. ;)

You are correct sir. Even though Luffy is Roof, Sanji is Sunkist, and the fruit are called seeds or nectar sometimes, free is free ;)
Also I heard lost of people call Buggy's powers that back at Anime Boston 2003. So I've considered that to be correct ever since.

Bah. There's never a reason to muck about with HK Bootlegs; aside from the whole "supporting criminal organizations" angle, their audio and video quality tend to be crap, to say nothing of their translations.
'sides, Kaizoku's fansubs are still up, and still very good.

He looked pretty brown skinned to me. He shows up in later episodes as well so we can check again to be sure. That kind of edit would be potentialy dangerous for 4Kids to try to pull off; you can delete Japanese culture from an American dub, but "whitening out" black people? That's like putting a sign on your back to ask Al Shapton and Jesse Jackson to kick you.

- 'Grapefruit juice.' Obviously, they're pirates, and they can't say what they're really drinking. I was about to say 'tea' would be a better substitute... but then again, I just thought, what self-respecting pirate would drink tea?
- In the action scenes, such as when Zoro got stabbed in the back, it still surprises me that they show the movement towards the stab and just cut out the actual impact, rather cutting out the movement and action altogether. I wonder if I'll ever get used to it.
- Something tells me I'd better get out Shonen Jump and start comparing episodes to the corresponding chapters, just to get a feel for what was changed.
- I find myself hating Nami's voice even more. Couldn't they've picked someone better?
Final score: 4 out of 5.

I was right!
Since the character looks like a black charicature, I think they re-colored him so that he was less offensive or something (see Dogasu's Pokemon site for similar problems with the Jynx character)

Grapefruit punch, actually, which I suppose is a bit better. Still, this is one area where a less accurate translation would have worked better.
As for the episode, I found it a bit meh. That seems to be a trend with this series: odd numbered episodes meh, even number episodes are great. Let's hope next episode is better.
Buggy is pretty cool, although I expected him to be fatter, for some reason. Is he a recurring character, or is this his only arc?

I guess its because that black kid was drawn with those stereotypical big "black man lips" that the japanese are so fond of. I kind of agree that black people shouldnt be drawn that way but logically changing him to a white guy dont make it no better.

Yeah, the artist likes doing that, it shows us the continuing adventures of smaller characters and/or villains. It's quite funny, and leafd to interesting "filler" eps in the anime later.

Wheather it`s a big wooden hammer or a sword, in animes females are abile to conceal anything.
