View Full Version : GBA Recommendations?

So I finally caved and bought a Gameboy Player for my Gamecube today. (I know, I'm years behind the curve with the DS coming out late this year, but what can I say, I'm a cheapskate.) I also picked up Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga after being bombarded with hype.
Any GBA owners out there want to tell me what you consider the other must-haves for the system to be? I keep hearing good things about Golden Sun and its sequel, might pick those up next... or maybe Metroid: Zero Mission.
The one caveat is that I'm not too interested in ports unless they offer something really special above and beyond their first version. I'm glad that ports are being released for those who missed out or were too young the first time around, but considering that most ports are SNES titles or the occasional PSX title (like FF Tactic Advance) and I own both, likely if it was pretty good I already have it.

I'd recommend Advence Guardian Heroes, River City Ransom, one of the new Pokemon games, any of the MegaMan Battle Network games (except for the Battle Chip Challenge game), MegaMan Zero 2 or 3 (first one wasn't that good), AstroBoy, and one of the Advance Wars games.

Fire Emblem, Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB 3)

First thing's first... I'll second the Advance Wars recommendation.
Also... Metroid Fusion, Golden Sun, Boktai, and Sonic Advance 1 & 2 are worth looking into.

Actually, FF Tactics Advance isn't a port. Same world, similar gameplay, but a completely different story. Is fun.

How did nobody mention Wario Ware?! Wario Ware is the most creative thing Nintendo did with the GBA, by far. It's an incredibly fun and original game, that provides a great experience.
Advance Wars is also extremely fun. Great style, funny characters, and surprisingly deep strategy gameplay. It's not the deepest strategy game ever, but there's enough to keep you on your toes.
Golden Sun is good if you want a straight, no-frills console RPG. It's follows a lot of RPG cliches, but it's good for what it is. It won't leave a lasting impression on you, but it's enjoyable enough for a play through.
The Castlevania games are very true to their early roots. Depending on what game you go with, there's some quirks in the brightness and music. But if you like Castlevania, these games will surely please.
Likewise, Metroid Fusion is true to the spirit of earlier Metroid games (with some added elements). So, if you like Metroid, you'll probably like this.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor!
It's probably the best game I have for the GBA, and it's incredibly fun and addictive.
The Castlevania games are also quite awesome.

Let's see here....*looks at GBA collection behind him*
-Pretty much all the Castlevania titles are noteworthy.
-The Crash Bandicoot games are decent too, especially if you can find them on sale. (I found the first title for $10)
-Chu Chu Rocket is officially the greatest puzzle game ever. Well, to me, at least. It's even got freaking awesome single-cart multiplayer.
-Bomberman Tournament--it's not about the single-player "quest" game...It's about the excellent multiplayer mode that requires only one cart.
-Lilo & Stitch contains some very fun Metal Slugh-style blastin' action.
-All of the Sonic Advance titles are good.
-Pokemon Games. You can't have a GBA without 'em.
-Mario Kart: Super Circuit
-Rayman Advance & Rayman 3
...and, well, the rest have been named already.

If you remotley like any metroid game, get Metroid Fusion.
If you like spending hundreds of hours on a game, get pokemon or Final Fantasy Tactics.
If you like humor with good game play to boot, get Mario and Luigi:SuperStar Saga.
And if you like mindless fun, Get Wario Ware.
I reccomend Wario Ware

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is a great game, but I'd say the absolute 'must-own' for GBA would have to be Fire Emblem. Maybe it's my soft spot for strategy RPGs, but the game is really well done all-around. Get that.

You already bought one of my favorite GBA games (Mario & Luigi), and the other is WarioWare. You want something new, innovative, and extremely fun, you got it.

The Phantasy Star Collection is an excellent GBA treat! It contains Phantasy Star 1,2 and 3. The only con with it is that it does not have Phantasy Star 4 (BEST OF THE ENTIRE PHANTASY STAR SERIES) on the cartridge.
