Another weekend approaches, and you know what that means! It's time for another all-new episode of "The Winx Club." This is the talkback for the eighteenth episode of the series. Yep, believe it or not, we're already two-thirds through! Time flies fast when you've had 4+ months without a week off.
Last week... Red Fountain was celebrating the Day of the Royals, and Prince Skye's parents were the guests of honor. Bloom tries to call Brandon to get an invite, and gets 'beeped.' With Stella's prodding (and wondering why Skye didn't invite her), the girls sneak into the festival... as groupies, as the guard who couldn't stop them would say. Tensions flied as Brandon and Riven again butted heads, while Bloom, thinking that Princess Diaspro, Skye's fiance, was Icy in disguise, attacks her in a jealous rage. In the end, Alfea's and Fountain's reputations are taken down a notch, Brandon and Skye are actually Skye and Brandon, Diaspro probably thinks Bloom's a real nutcase now, and the girls had their powers diluted by 50% as punishment for sneaking onto the grounds.
Whew... what a mouthful! Okay, this week's episode is entitled "Senior Witches Go to Earth." One thing's for sure... the Winx girls are lucky they didn't get kicked out of school like the Senior Witches did. Speaking of which, they're back this week... and they're taking their anger out on... Bloom's Earth parents? See what happens this weekend on the Winx Club!
(Note: I am still doing the talkback even though this was the 'sneak peek' episode that aired back in May and there was already a lengthy discussion on it. Personally, I didn't see it, so I'll be posting my thoughts... and so can anyone who's seeing it for the first time too... or for the second, or third, or how many ever times Fox Box aired it in that two week period.)
Usual particulars, including using the you-know-what for spoilers! Plus, this is the last week I'm using the traditional poll rating system. I'm switching to general polls... questions about the show, characters, clothing... anything! If you got any suggestions for poll questions, leave them in the thread, PM me, or e-mail me!
Be back on Monday with a review! Until then, review away!

If FoxBox is going in the order that Rainbow SRL produced them, then this episode tomorrow will be this one.

You mean this episode is the one before the sneak peek right? If so, this is 1 of the 2 episodes i've been waiting for. As i said before, there just cant be any possible way that the sneak peek would be next. Previous episode left off with Bloom and the girls in alfea.. then they air sneak peek? Where the episode starts off in a heated battle? That cant be right. This episode surely must clear a few things up. But the episode after the sneak peek is what im looking forward to the most. I hate cliffhangers.

Princess Diaspro, Skye's sister
I think you mean Sky's fiancee. No incest in American/European cartoons that I've ever heard of. If Diaspro was just his sister, they wouldn't be engaged and Bloom could shut up and relax.
From what I can tell, this is the episode before the sneak peek. I've seen the sneak peek titled "Attack of the Senior Witches" and it seems to be a big battle ep, whereas this one should have more backstory. Next week should be "Attack."

Hmm...interesting. I just came on here after seeing this episode and there's already one vote for it, ranking it a 1. It's definitely higher than a 1. Methinks we have someone in here trying to make Winx look bad. For shame. If not and you really do think this episode sucks, Mystery Voter, then come forth and explain yourself.
Anyways, the ep just ended and I'm about to do my summary for the LJ group. This ep totally rocked. It's oh so wonderful to see my three witches kicking butt! Nutt is back and...well, can't say he's better than ever, but he is back. Bloom identity as the princess of Sparx is finally revealed. Good. Now maybe we can get on to more important things like action and the character development of anyone who's not Bloom!
The highlight for me was Stormy. We see her on her own for the first time ever at the beginning of the episode. My favorite battle moment was her shoving Bloom. Gotta love it when the witches resort to physical violence and Stormy's gotta be the most physical of the three. Rock on. Her electric booty kick (or whatever it was called) was cute, though my favorite witch power is still Darcy's heel of oblivion.
Oh, and the secondary highlight? Bloom turning Mitzi's scooter into a pig. That was just great and balanced out my irritation with Bloom being such a drama queen. You'd think Stella would get the drama queen award, but no. My opinion of Bloom came out unchanged. She's decent on her own, she's self-righteous, judgmental and reckless around others, and she needs the focus taken off her once in awhile. Hopefully, after next week, we can have some fun episodes with everyone doing cool stuff, not just Bloom Bloom Bloom. At least we should see some of the other girls' powers more next week with Bloom now minus hers. (Ha!)
Next week should be crammed full of excitement, because unlike most, I haven't seen the so-called sneak peek episode. So everyone please still put information about it behind spoilers! I don't want it ruined for me, thank you.

Well, it was a good episode. Better than good, even. And Bloom isn't annoying this time either, which is great, since she's the very center focus for the episode ;). A 3.4 on the old scale.
I suppose after her stupidity last week, Bloom certainly does owe her friends a major apology: yay for Bloom realizing it! Her wanting to leave Alfea was understandable.
Yay, Trix sisters attacking! Like Darcy, the best part was Stormy getting hands-on with Bloom: all the magic at her disposal, and she just wants to throw her around with her hands. Heh.
Stormy is likely more intelligent than she's given credit for sometimes. I guess it's just easy to write her off as "the dumb one" maybe, since she does seem less intelligent and often more irrational than Icy or Darcy, but then today, she still had the sense to see what Bloom was up to, rather than just attacking her then and there, which I'm sure she'd have loved to have done. Good job, Stormy!
I found Stella really cute at the end of the episode, telling Bloom to come back. Spoiled she may be, I do love how Stella truly cares what happens to her friends; she is so a better person than she's sometimes given credit for.
Was anyone else hoping that Mitzi would bump into the Trix sisters on earth? I'd love to see what they would have done to her if Mitzi told them how stupid they looked :anime:. As it is, I wonder if Mitzi's going to be smart enough to realize that Bloom turned her scooter into the pig, or if she'll continue teasing Bloom anyway.
Vanessa makes homemade pizza? Blech.
Miss Faragonda telling the Winx girls that she'll "take care" of the Bloom situation? Can we say "bureaucratic red tape" ;).
You know, when summer vacation comes, the Winx girls are so going to need to visit each others' planets.
Darse, I haven't need the sneak preview episode either ;).

This episode was awesome! I love when the witches' evil plots work out. ;)
Icy had some great lines. Her response to Darcy's, "What are we gonna pack?" was so her - "Just your toothbrush and your Wisperian Crystal!". That made me chuckle out loud. :D Then how she was telling Bloom about Nutt's improvements with "ogre pilates", ROFL. That was hillarious. Anyway, yes, great episode! :D
Here's next week's spoiler if anyone's interested.
The Army of Decay - With the power of the dragon fire, the witches return to Cloud Tower to seize and take over the school. They throw Proffessor Griffin in the dungeon, along with any other witches who attempt to get in their way and intervene with their plan of taking over Magix. The Winx girls desperately search for a way to save Magix, which has become chaotic under the control of Icy, Darcy, and Stormy.

Great ep. Much better than last week's.:D
I felt very sorry for Bloom leaving Alfea, but after what happened in the last ep, who can blame her?:(
Still, it was nice to see her parents again. I also liked when she helped out at her mom's flower shop.:) And what's wrong with homemade pizza?:p
I also liked how she handled that girl Misty. Turning the scooter into a pig was a good way to make her stop teasing her.
Now, for the battle between Bloom & the evil trio: talk about payback for them getting expelled! Plus, they finally extracted the "Dragon Fire" magic out of her!
How will our 5 heroes be able to stop the evil trio? Worse yet, I wonder those 3 will use "Dragon Fire?" All I can say is, I can't wait to see the next few eps. They should be exciting.:)
One last thing, Winx Club fans: according to tvtome.com, next week will not be "Attack of the Senior Witches." The next ep is titled "The Army of Decay."
Darcy
10-16-2004, 11:18 PM
"The Army of Decay" is close to the German title, which translates to "The Army of Darkness." I'm sure we can figure out why they couldn't use that for a title. Heh. Sounds like a fab ep! Thanks for the little preview, Deonanna! I love, love, love those witches!

We should totally start up a petition and send it to Mattel to start producing Darcy and Stormy dolls. ICY NEEDS THEM! ROFL. ;)

Actually, i hear this episode coming up isnt the sneak peek ep. I hear its the one prior to the sneak peek. Yes, finally. I wish I hadn't watched the sneak peek, it was all spoilerish and had me waiting all this time for Bloom to discover her powers and get them stolen by the witch trio. They should have used an episode from much earlier in the series for the sneek peak. One of the filler episodes that didn't deal with big plot points.

I wish they would have used an episode that actually made sense when it first started, an episode that didnt include a cliffhanger at the end, and an episode that didnt include spoilers (like you said). But hey, if they did that, they'd just use a dinky episode with no action in it. And therefore, wouldnt be enough to catch the attention of the audience enough to get them to sit put for the premiere. But then again, the sneak peek wasnt what got me hooked, it was the first episode that got me hooked. Actually, after watching the sneak peek when it first aired, i walked out of the room thinking, bah, who cares about this. But i gave it one more chance by watching the first episode.

Even at 50% diluted powers, Bloom can still command a tree to bend into her room and lift her out without any problems. Another thing is turning Misty's bike into a pig. That pretty impressive.

1. Early on, Bloom's voice sounded older than usual.
2. So, who was driving the van of that biatchy girl stalking Bloom? If it's her dad, then it seems he's endorsing his daughter's bad behavior. Not good parenting. :(
3. When the witches told Bloom the truth of her origin, her reaction seemed so fake. She was too quick and too accepting. It's like the scriptwriters hurried thru the scene.
4. So now that we've seen this, it seems the sneak preview ep months ago was composed of bits 'n pieces from a few eps assembled together.

I may by wrong, but i could have sworn that Faragonda mentioned in one of the earlier episodes that the Witches came to sparx a long time ago looking for the Dragonfire, and then destroying the planet because they couldnt find it. Meaning that sparx was destroyed generations ago. But if Bloom was the princess and last heir to the throne, wouldnt the planet have to be destroyed like when Bloom was a baby? like 20 years ago? This doesnt make any sense. If the Sparx was taken out generations ago, when and where was Bloom born? Who is Bloom's mother and what happened to her mother? And why so recently was Bloom found in the burning building? I really dont think that her ancestor was sent to earth just before the witches destroyed the planet.
So to sum it up, When exactly was Sparx destroyed, and when exactly was Bloom born, and how did she arrive on Earth?

I'm almost positive it was in episode 6 (Secret Guardian) when the girls were walking back and Bloom was telling them about how the restricted vault let her in and let her read some pages of the book. I have that episode on tape so I'll rewind it tomorrow and check for sure, but I remember this part of their conversation in Faragonda's office:
Bloom: "Where is Sparx, is it real?"
Faragonda: "It was, but sadly, Sparx doesn't exist anymore..."
...yeah. Weird plot holes! :\

I loved this ep but Spelled is still my favorite any way that's itI can't say I understand why you'd put Bloom at the top of your list, or why you'd put Tecna last, but eh... guess Bloom, being the main character, is the one we're "supposed" to like best anyway.
Spelled is my second favorite episode, so not a bad choice there.

Seems there's a lot of confusion about the sneak peek episode... whether it was this episode, this coming week's, or a combination of the two. Wish I knew for sure myself... it's all so mind-numbing.
Also, yeah, I goofed on the whole Disapro thing in the first post. You'd think I'd catch my mistake as I go over my posts at least twice before submitting them. I still don't know for the life of me why I typed in 'sister' instead of 'fiance.'
Anyway... review time! This week's score, 3 out of 4.
- Just curious here... what was Bloom drawing in her room? It looked like a pic of Alfea's courtyard, but I'm not entirely sure.
- Something not mentioned yet, and I'm surprised it hasn't been. Show and tell in high school? Maybe it's just something put in the dub's dialogue instead of what Mitzi originally said to Bloom, but that's gotta be one of the most off-putting, out-of-place lines I've ever heard! Couldn't they have thought of a different line?
- So now we have three princesses in the club. Stella, Musa, and now, Bloom, the princess of Sparx. But just because that was revealed doesn't mean all the questions have been answered. Why was Bloom sent to Earth? When did this all happen? Could there have been another option? Also...
I remember her (Faragonda) saying that too, now that I think back. I'm almost positive it was in episode 6 (Secret Guardian) when the girls were walking back and Bloom was telling them about how the restricted vault let her in and let her read some pages of the book. Bloom: "Where is Sparx, is it real?"
Faragonda: "It was, but sadly, Sparx doesn't exist anymore..."
...yeah. Weird plot holes! :\I'd say it's a case of 4Kids dubbing one episode at a time instead of seeing the whole season first, then going back to the start and making dialogue based on it. Hopefully this is a snafu and that the ship'll be righted when the full truth comes out.
- (QOTW) Just so I don't keep going back to Stella every week, how about a quote of someone saying something about Stella. In this case... "From my calculations, she tends to be an average of fourteen-and-a-half minutes late, which would mean she is about to arrive... right now." - Tecna.
You don't know how tempted I was to use Stella's "Well, what does 'no' mean, really?" quote instead.
Okay, so the Senior Witches are heading back to Cloud Tower, possibly looking to get back in? But Stella and the others hope to cut in and get Bloom's powers back. We'll see what next week holds for the fairies!

I bet there wasn't really show and tell, but that Mitzi was just trying to tick Bloom off and she was rewarded with a pig.:D

I try not to begrudge others their tastes, but I really hate it when people go out of their way to put down things, as seems to be the case with this thread and the voting. It's just useless to be that negative.

Yeah well can't say I understand why I like Bloom best either. Wierd huh?
Im a major Bloom fan. Mainly because what they did with Bloom is basically my perspective of a favorite situation for a character. Hard to explain. I havent found a character with a situation like hers. I've always loved cartoons where the a character's parents knows about their secrets (like Bloom), plus the fact that Bloom has a great power that she doesnt even know lies within her, and she doesnt know who she is and where she came from, so she searches for answers. (But i can do without the episode where they make her look like a fool, i didnt like that episode. Bloom has a heart of gold and didnt deserve to be made a fool like that, she needed a better script) And yes, i understand Bloom gets a little over her head when the other girls does something wrong. Its just how Bloom is, she's the conscience of the group. If she left well enough along, the group would get into more trouble. I say yay for Bloom, despite what you all think. Each group needs a conscience (Like Yoh on Shaman King -but he's actually funny.)

I vote not to tease back. Show them that your a slight bit more mature. Or at least TRY to get them hooked on winx. They may not enjoy it, but at least tell them the good points of the show. Like the excellent storyline (sans all the 'character' flaws that people here are complaining about :p )

I say yay for Bloom, despite what you all think.I think Bloom has certainly had a positive effect on Stella. The other girls are not exactly soulless monsters, though. If Bloom never attended Alfea, I don't think Tecna, Musa, and Flora would really have caused all that much trouble ;).
Sure, Bloom's basically a good person, but I do not believe for a moment that she deserves to be put on a pedestal, either.

Thanks I'll try that. I have a twin sister and we share a room (we fight so much because of that I wonder Why I haven't gone insane:sad: ) so she has no choice but to watch Winx with me when I wake up every Saturday morning at 7:25 to tape Winx:evil: (It comes on at 7:30 here in Lubbock I wake up in order not to tape the comercials plus I don't know how to set my VCR to tape for me) so she's almost there but not quite and she still joins in on the teasing when everyone else does but I'm hoping she'll grow out of that but I've actually gotten her to watch it more often than Saturday morning lately and that is a big step for anyone in my family besides me. She pretty much only likes Musa right now but I'm hoping soon she'll grow out of that to, liking Musa is OK but not when you like only Musa. K i'm done blabbing thanks for the advice Mighty_Bojingo.

Heh, I've just always been the "if you don't stand up for yourself, they're going to walk all over you" type. If you let them keep teasing you, they'll keep doing it because they know they can, but if you retaliate with finesse, maybe they'll knock it off a bit. The other good option is to not let it show that they're bugging you. I've seen both these methods work, but then again I am an only child, so this isn't coming from personal experience with siblings, but my experiences with other people. And tell your brother that if he doesn't stop hitting, he's going to have to contend with a 26-year-old Winx fan. *pounds fist into palm* Heh heh heh. :p
As for Bloom being a "conscience," well, I have to disagree. Of course. (I'm the resident Bloom Hater #1 in my LiveJournal group.) Sure, she's got a good sense of right and wrong, but come on, does Flora really seem like the bad girl type? If Bloom wasn't there, I really don't think everything would go haywire. (Mainly because all the trouble they get into all goes back to Bloom. Without her prescence, there would be no witch trouble.) Tecna's certainly not one to rock the boat either. Musa's sort of the rebel, but she's never done anything majorly wrong. Stella's the one that needs help, but then that's to be expected. Flora and Tecna often say things to the same extent that Bloom does, about what they should do, etc.
Also, you seem to be overlooking the fact that Bloom often doesn't apply this "conscience" role to herself. This is why I dislike her character. She's quick to harp on everyone else when they do something wrong, but she can't turn that same focus on herself, therefore she's a big hypocrite. She does stupid stuff like risking everyone getting caught in Cloud Tower to sneak into the library and then looking at the Bloom book despite Tecna's many warnings. If she hadn't done that, they wouldn't have gotten caught. And if she'd had someone there to tell her to step back and examine the Diaspro situation like she would have done to one of the other girls, then she probably wouldn't have been so quick to attack her. If she's going to keep trying to "mother" everyone, then she needs to learn to mother herself, too. If she wasn't so reckless in that case, then I wouldn't have such a problem with her.

And tell your brother that if he doesn't stop hitting, he's going to have to contend with a 26-year-old Winx fan. *pounds fist into palm* Heh heh heh. :p
:anime: lol thanks I'll definetly do that Mighty_Bojingo's idea didn't work the second I was off the internet they were all over me when I didn't tease back they teased me till my mom yelled at them for making so much noise because my little brother was asleep

Yes, i agree that Bloom gets herself into trouble, but since im a major fan of her, i tend to look at things from her shoes. With the Book, She figured at first it was her only chance to see it regardless the risk (Now im starting to think that maybe she was too gullable -.-). As for Diaspro, she thought Diaspro was Icy. She was getting a little over-protective of Brandon. I really dont think Bloom was fighting diaspro because she was brandon's girl. When Bloom found out he knew her, she just stopped the fight immediately. Somehow i dont think Bloom would be the jealous type.
Plus i still find the scooter into pig a bit disturbing.. I know that mitzi was a bit 'pre-occupied' while on the pig, but either Mitzi's more gullable then Bloom, or she might start to figure out what's going on. I mean riding a scooter one minute then next thing you know your on a pig.. That's got to be a big blow to the head that something isnt normal and Bloom HAS to be connection a bit since she was the ONLY one around.
I seriously hope they fix Bloom's character a bit. Gullability doesnt fit her.

Somehow i dont think Bloom would be the jealous type.Oh, she is so the jealous type.
It's apparent I'm between you and Darcy on the issue of Bloom. I like her less than you, Bojingo, but more than Darcy. Bloom is pleasant enough sometimes... but the next thing you know, she'll go and do something stupid. As it is, she's my fourth favorite of the five Winx girls.
either Mitzi's more gullable then Bloom, or she might start to figure out what's going on.It doesn't really matter if Mitzi finds out Bloom has powers, so long as no one else figures it out. I mean, really: if some psycho chick told you that someone had magical fairy powers, would you believe her ;)? Heck, that would be a good way for Bloom to show Mitzi up: use her powers just when she's by herself, so no one else figures it out, and Mitzi looks insane if she tries to tell someone else :anime:!

Oh, she is so the jealous type. Most heartily agreed. Seriously, now that I think about it, Bloom didn't come to the conclusion Diaspro was Icy until after she saw Diaspro's holopicture of Sky, did she? Why would Icy have a picture of Sky? If she was after him, she wouldn't need a picture. She knows what he looks like. They've all fought before. So Bloom gets jealous and comes up with the idea that Diaspro is Icy so she can justify a beatdown for her new rival. Hee hee hee!
Heck, that would be a good way for Bloom to show Mitzi up: use her powers just when she's by herself, so no one else figures it out, and Mitzi looks insane if she tries to tell someone else :anime:! That would rule! My opinion of Bloom would skyrocket if she did that.
I do like that she's not a perfect character. It's good for the lead to have flaws. I'm really glad she's not the babyish, bumbling type like Sailor Moon. That always annoyed me. The only thing I'd really change about her is her inability to "mom" herself. Or if she must continue to do stupid things, then she needs to stop picking on the other girls when they do stuff that isn't nearly as idiotic. Stop being a hypocrite and I'll like you more, Bloom!
And I think gullibility fits Bloom a lot. Think about it. She's the new girl to this whole magic thing. Wouldn't it be logical for her to be susceptible to stuff the others, who grew up in magical settings, wouldn't be? It's fine for her to be gullible. She just also needs to learn to listen to her friends, like when Tecna tried to tell her about the book. She can't expect her friends to listen to her when she goes off on them if she doesn't do the same in return.

Actually I think it was when Diaspro had her evil chuckle after she called Bloom a loser(kinda souded like Icy don't you think?). I haven't watched it in a while, it is my least favorite episode because I don't like to see anyone made a fool of, especialy Bloom.
