Have any of you been to either of these sites, heard of either of these sites, or gotten referrals from people who went to either of these sites? I'm not just doing a shameless plug here (although if you are interested, it would be pretty neat if you PMed me so I could send a referral link). I'm trying to get a general consensus of how real this stuff is.

I've read good stuff about it so far. The deal is, you give them your e-mail address and a shipping address. Then you look at a bunch of ads (and can definitely respond "NO" to all of them). Then you have to get a bunch of other people to do it (5 for ipods, 8 for flatscreens). Then you have to sign up for a trial offer from a web site they link to. A lot of them have significant sign-up-and-cancel possibility. One of the offers -- clearly the best one -- is to just sign up for eBay and make a bid (not even a winning bid).

It seems too good to be true at first, but really, I guess it's not. They're collecting e-mails, showing you tons of ads, and getting you to sign up for other services, so the whole thing is really pretty feasible. It's basically spam, but it's honest spam that could save you money.

Unless... you've heard some dark secrets. Have you? This is the point of the post, really.

No to WHAT? Many things have been said in this thread, and the most recent things didn't have a yes or no answer, you can't just say "no".

Here's an article from Wired magazine that pretty much affirms my thoughts:

http://wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_2

I mean, really, it's not THAT outlandish. There's a whole lot of marketing involved and it's plain to see. I mean, statistically, if you get just one person, and he completes his offer and refers 8 people -- and of course, his offer only works if THOSE 8 people also complete the process -- that's already 65 people who have signed up for trial memberships to these organizations (I think all 8 people have to get 8 additional people for it to work for the first guy; I'm not sure). When you balance the number of flat-screen monitors given out with the amount of people who wind up signing up for these services, and consider that, statistically, even a small portion of those people probably do remain on said services, it's economically sound.

Here's a web site that documents the history of freeflatscreens.com: http://freeflatscreens.bizhat.com/

Here's another customer testimonial: http://forevergeek.com/news/freeflatscreenscom.php

Well, looks like there's probably no dirt to be found. Cool.

Do they still have that? I was told it wasn't an option anymore. From what I've read, the eBay one frequently goes in and out of rotation. And right now it is IN, baby. At least it was a day or two ago.

On The Screen Savers, Kevin got his $250 certificate, but Alex has yet to recieve the ipod. They called the company and they said they're backed up, but they're going to send it. So I believe it.

Don't know much about the Flat Screens, but according to the average reciever time (around 2 months between getting your last referral, ordering, and getting the iPod), mine should be here by the end of the month.

Yeah, even without any extra stock delay, there's still significant delay involved with the trials and the 8 other referrals all doing THEIR stuff and everything.

Oh, and so some people are gonna do it? Well...

...

Hmm...

Several people in the chatroom I go to got their free ipod. It's real. It's just a hassle.

I dunno why you'd want something whose unreplacable battery dies in 18 months, but I guess you can't argue with a price like $0.00.

I especially could use that in college... and going to and from college...

If anyone is gonna sign up for the Free Ipods thing could you do so through my link so instead of just helping yourself out you'd be helping me out too? :) I've had an account there for awhile just having a lot of trouble getting 5 people. If you help me I'd be so happy and give you a cookie or something.

My link for it- http://www.freeiPods.com

But yeah, it's a real thing, my friend Isaac got his.

Actually, there are places on the internet where you can get the battery and instructions on how to change it yourself for far cheaper. And for the record, I've had my iPod for longer than 18 months, and my battery is still going strong.

Yeah, there's WAY too much work involved. You have to refer like 10 people, and they have to sign up, and by the time you actually get to get one, they're gonna be obsolete!
