Chronos is an old silver age villian (one of Flash's or GL's). I have a picture of him, but I don't know how to post it here.

Chronos is a very interesting character and I hope he appears on the JL series because there's so much I want to know about him.
(Info taken from : http://omega.animefringe.com/chronos/ (http://omega.animefringe.com/chronos/) used without permission)
"As an industrial thief with a master's degree in theoretical physics, Walker Gabriel developed a temporal displacement suit which slowed time around him so the world appeared frozen. Only after being exposed to a tachyon particle explosion did he discover that he could also move through time at will. Ignoring the axiom that history cannot be changed, Walker attempted to prevent the untimely death of his adoptive mother, Theresa Gabriel. In order to save her, however, Walker obliterated his life up until that point, becoming, paradoxically, a man who should not exist.
He later learned his abilities were tied to the unusual circumstances of his birth in Chronopolis, a city protected from the passage of time by a unique quantum field. After a revelatory experience in a temporal vortex, Walker moves through time enigmatically, playing the hero in one era and the villain in another. His motives, like his methods, remain mysterious."
For pics of him check the site above.
Anyway I think he's a way cool character to be used in JL, I mean a guy who on neutral sides is too good to resist.

I think that he's a different Chronos, DCU Bat. They developed a new character with the same name after the current character got caught in a paradox.
According to the JLA Secret Files and Origins #1, the Lord of Time is "a fugitive from the future" who possesses the ability to "jump forward, backward, and diagonally in time to his tactical advantage." He also possesses "an everchanging arsenal of weapons" that he steals from multiple time periods...
Wait a minute, I think that Chronos and the Lord of Time are two separate villains. The Lord of Time is a Justice League villain, but I'm pretty sure that Chronos was a foe of the Atom. Which one are we talking about here?

It's mentioned that he's the 2'nd/3'rd Chronos.
Nevertheless Walker Gabriel would rock in the new series.

The original Chronos' real name was David Clinton. He was a Silver Age enemy of the Atom, who at first was a standard crook using "clock-themed" weapons. He would use things like a clock that could shoot its hands off like small arrows or an hour glass that contained quicksand he used to trap the Atom.
Eventually he discovered ways to manipulate and travel through time. For most of his career he wore the ridiculous costume pictured here:

(Scroll down to the picture of the Injustice Gang, Chronos is the villian on the far left wearing the striped tights.)
Walker Gabriel, the second Chronos, was somewhat of a protoge of the original. After the original Chronos died, Walker used his technology to travel through time. He starred in his own short-lived title in the late '90's. It was very good and had a Vertigo-like feel to it.
Hope that helps,

Diagonally in time? How does that work?
I know if I travelled a year forward in time I'd find myself in 2002. Backward, and I'd find myself in 2000. But if I travelled "diagonally" in time, where I be?
Sorry, but I can't resist wondering about this.

Would diagonally mean a jump to a parallel time line. An alternate universe? Elseworlds?
Very Star Treky stuff there.
With a linear time line made up up any number of parallel times lines, this would seem plausible.

True. And "diagonally" would seem to indicate that one could move to a parallel time line of the future or the past, but not the present.

Present would require horizontal time hopping.

OK, that makes some sort of sense.
Actually, if it's into parallel time streams then it sounds less like "diagonal time travel" more like universe-hopping. But that's OK.
