I would have to say that there has yet to be a Superhero
movie thats ever gotten it right.
We comic book fans , have to live our lives justifying
our collections ..."comics arent for kids ...theyre real adult
stories ...deep and intricate' .
Our friends nod their heads and say "whatever".
Then we here there making a comic book movie and we fanboys
know every mainstream joe and clara are gonna flock to
the theatres to see this ...and they will assume what they
see on film is what we religiously flock to comic book stores to
purchase.
Thats why we pray that the movie wont blow chunks ...and why
were always disapointed because the films are purposely
marketed to children to promote snack pack toys at Mc Donalds.
Sigh.
So out of a miserable selections of Superhero films..
Whats the best ?
Im partial to Superman II.
The Phantom.
X-men.
All three of these fail to capture what we love about the comics ..
but still excite the fanboy in us all when they show up on USA network.
Any forum favorites?

I would have to go with 1978's SUPERMAN. If your question is "What is the best movie based off of a comic book property?", then definitely Superman.
If your question is "Which comic book based movie is the most FAITHFUL and ACCURATE to it's original material?", then that could be different.
Why I like the original SUPERMAN so much: Because it's actually an entertaining movie on it's own. It is well written, directed and acted. It posses a charm that appeals to both adults and kids and to people who are fans of Superman and those who have never picked up a comic book in their lives.
The art direction is flawless, as is John Williams' score. And the special effects were top-notch (in that day and age).
It's not just a good "comic-book" movie, it's a good "movie" movie.
Do I have problems with it? Yes. But they have nothing to do with it being based off of a comic book. No motion picture is 100% perfect.
Anyway, yet another good topic Spirit. You're on a roll.

Well, my favorite movie ever is MOTP, but that's a cartoon, and i'm not sure if it counts. Besides, it faced even more discrimination because it was a cartoon.
But of the one's you listed, i'd go w/ XMEN.

There are so many its too difficult to narrow it down!
There's MOTP of course.
And the original Tim Burton Batman movie.
And X-Men.
And The Crow (well, ok, he's sort of an anti-hero, but he counts in my book).
And Unbreakable (not based on a specific comic book hero, but close enough).
That enough?

Hey, anyone seen that GREAT Fantastic Four movie? The one that was never actually released to theaters? Oh yeah...that movie sucked...hahaha. Worst $3 I ever sent on a bootleg in my life!
X-men was probably my favorite, But BLADE is probably the one that looked & felt the best in all aspects. And of course, I cant complain with the original Superman. & Tim Burtons Batman was the best of the series..
Oh yeah..and Ninja Turtles...yup...I loved that one...

Personally I've always felt that if you combined Supes I & II (then edited out some of the pointless bits) you have the almost perfect Superman movie. The same thing goes for Batman and Batman Returns.
While I don't know if it ranks as one of the best comic based movies, Mystery Men happens to be one of my favorites. I've also heard that it's faithful to its source material (personally I can't say since I've never read the original comics).
X-Men was good, if it did have a few shortcomings, and it could have been longer.
Spiderman should be incredible.
And on the TV side of things I may be speaking to soon here, but so far The Tick is shaping up very nicely. :)

If we're talking superhero movie based on a comic, I'd go with X-Men all the way. I consider it superior to any of the live-action Superman or Batman films.
Blade was good too. I'm looking forward to the sequel. Wesley Snipes is a capable lead. Besides, how can they go wrong with actor/director Donnie "Wong Fe-Hung's dad in 'Iron Monkey'" Yen as the fight choreographer and costar?
The best overall, superhero movie, in my book, is Unbreakable. Love that movie. To bad it didn't make mad bank like Sixth Sense or we'd be in for two more installments. ~sigh~ Still, the movie does stand on it's own.
I liked the Phanton too, which had a pulp comic, Indiana Jones feel to it. I also liked The Mask of Zorro (If Batman's a "Superhero," so is Zorro.) Hey, Catherine Zeta Jones really shines in these superhero movies. She could be a wicked Talia in a Batman movie. Or as Electra in Daredevil.
Never seen the Crow. Don't remember much about Spawn.

Christopher Reeves definately makes a good Superman. Superman I and II were definately the better out of all the Superman movies. I also liked the Supergirl movie a lot, too. I really wished for another Superman movie featuring Supergirl, since Superman was briefly mentioned in her movie (and the fact she saw a poster of him on her roommate's wall). That's all the superhero movies I can remember that stand out. The Batman movie with Val Kilmer was ok, too, i guess, but nothing beats Superman! :)

I wouldn't say that's really accurate. The 1978 Superman, as mentioned by others here, was just an excellent movie and undoubtedly the greatest superhero movie. My personal favorite is Superman II, but I think I have to give the nod to the first as being the best.
I also think X-men did an excellent job of translating the characters and world to the big-screen. Only it's length keeps it from being the best of the superhero movies.
And, of course, I think the animated MOTP and ROTJ were both great as well.

As far as superhero movies go, the first Superman might just be my favorite. The first Batman movie is a very close second.
Others would include Blade, The Crow, and X-Men. I also enjoyed Spawn, though it wasn't received that well.

I thinking editing togethor SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN 2 would make it an ideal movie. I wouldn't even mind the 4 hour lenght. Actually, there has been rumor of WB doing a SE DVD of SUPERMAN 2 in the future. That movie definatly ranks up there as a great movie. UNBREAKABLE is also a terrific 'super-hero' movie.

Why be limited to superhero movies? There are plenty of comic book movies that rule. Here's my quick picks of the best of the best:
Superman
Superman 2
Batman
Batman Returns
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Mallrats
Chasing Amy
Ghost World
From Hell
Blade
X Men
Mystery Men
Unbreakable
and Men In Black
Of course, those are just off the top of my head. I might think of more later on!
