Disney bought the channel a couple of months ago, with the intention of calling it "ABC Family." They kept the Fox name until baseball season was done because the channel was still obligated to show some of the Fox playoff games.

It's getting tough to keep track of their history; they started out years ago as Pat Robertson's "Christian Broadcasting Network" [CBN]. 700 Club during the day and some cool reruns in the middle of the night [I have fond memories of watching "You Bet Your Life" episodes in the late '80's]. Then in an effort to draw more viewers, they changed the name to the "Family Channel" while keeping the programming the same. Then ol' Pat sold it and it became the "Fox Family Channel", and now the "ABC Family Channel". Jeez......

Does anyone else remember when they aired the made-for-TV Popeye's? I'm not sure about the King Features ones (I may be thinking of a local station that had them at the same time), but they used to do blocks of the Hanna-Barbera show.
And in a little irritating foreshadowing of standard network policies to come, Family Channel would speed up the end credits. A "Popeye" voice-over would mumble about how much he hates credits and wants to get rid of them, so then it would play in double-speed.
