How many different versions there are of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Thanks.A lot:

Eastman and Laird's TMNT (Comic Book: Various Publishers 1984-on): Gritty yet tongue in cheek, the original work.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Syndicated 1987): For most fans, the show at its peak. One tv miniseries and 65 episodes. Makes alot of changes to the tone and plot of the comics

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Movie, 1990): The first live-action TMNT film was a big hit for New Line. Stays true to the spirit of the cartoon while adding some left out elements from the comics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (CBS 1991-94) Pretty much an extention of the Syndi years. Animation isn't as good though.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze (Movie, 1991) Not my favorite of the franchise. Fun in its own little way.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (Movie, 1993) This was actually filmed in and around my hometown of Astoria, OR. Better than 2 but not up to the standard as the original.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (CBS 1994-1996) Red sky era. Seems to be in its own continuity.

Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation (Fox 1997) Live action reusing the suits from the movies. AKA crap.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Fox 2003-) Animated once again. Peter Laird was closely involved in the production, which is why this series sticks closer to the original comics then any other.

The movie costumes were never used in Next Mutation.

You also forgot the wacky two-part Japanese OVA.

They were designed to look similar to the third movie ones but they weren't designed by the same studio as Henson (which did the first two movies) nor whoever did the third. Some group of special effects and costume artists were contracted by Saban. The suits in the Next Mutation were far less complex than those used in even the 3rd movie.

You only mentioned one of the comic series.

Archie (the second best known TMNT comics, IMAGE, Tales of TMNT, Colored Mirage continued from the black and white ones, the current Mirage series which is returning to it's black and white roots, the current Tales of TMNT series, the manga which ties to the OVA, and the recently canceled Dreamwave series based on the new animated series. I'm probably forgetting some as well but that's most of them.

www.ninjaturtles.com (http://www.ninjaturtles.com) has all the info you'll ever really need. Some fansites are good for info but nothing beats the official page in this case.

There is also a syndicated Ninja Turtles newspaper comic strip, which they have on the official site. It wasn't that great, with humour that was more adult (not sexual, but just jokes kids wouldn't get) but still very lame, and very little action. They had a version of the Triceratons, where they lived in this secret cave under the ocean  Don't ask...
