How the heck did ShoPro derive "Zatch Bell" from "Gash Bell"? It's been puzzling me.
Anyway, it's a good fit for broadcast. It's like a goofier, weirder version of Yu-gi-oh. Though I'm a bit curious on the edits. I don't think you can show a kindergarten demon thing showing the full monty for half an episode. Except in Japan, for some reason.
And hopefully ShoPro'll target putting the show on Toonami, avoid unnecessary changes, other such pipe dreams, yadda yadda.

They changed the name because Gash Bell's english equivalent is considered a little dirty/risque for something that's going to be airing on childrens TV.

Q: How did Yu Yu Hakusho get around the "demons" thing?
A: It didn't. "Demons" was left in, in the Toonami version.

And it was back in the days of weekday toonami (in essence, Mizugi) so reagrdless of where it goes, we're good.

Its about a teenage boy who gets awaoken by a naked 5 year old showing his willy off or something equally disturbing and sais he's his "plaything" or something along those lines. It turns out the boy is actually some kinda dueling monster whos made out of puppet materials or something and some pervert with another one of theese dueling mosnters go's to battle the new guy on top of the local school roof.
A stereotipical bully hits some things and the creepy five year old puppet thing sais " He;s doing a crap! big crap! mega crap!".

Trying again with a description.......
Takamine, main character, is your prototypical highschool slacker. Bad grades, tension at home, few friends, the whole works. Wakes up one moring with Zach, the aforementioned naked 5-year-old, in his room. Turns out, the kid is a deamon and Takamine is the only one who can control him, using a special book, to fight in a tournament on earth to determine who will be the king of deamons. Over the course of the next 52 episodes they manage to meet and either befriend or make enemies of some of the weirdest people to grace the TV screen in a loooooong time.

Now see that sounds pretty good when you say it that way. Can't wait to see it. Are the fights good? Are we talking Uber Power house beam blasting or average even leveled adversaries with funky techniques?

A little from colum A, a little from colum b. They don't get really really good till about 15 eps in when Takamine and Gash/Zatch have better control of their powers and more people around them.
It should be noted though, there are times when they really turn up the melodrama, but it's all earned.

According to eisoVIZ (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=526911&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1) at the Anime On DVD forums, the name was changed more due to copyright/trademark issues than the fact that the word "Gash" is used as a dirty word.

Is there any word in the English language that has NOT been used for that double meaning?
I liked Cheesecake's description better.

What else is called Gash? I don't see how this could be a legal issue.

No no, I'm not lambasting ShoPro for changing the name - they're dealing with freaking TOEI, so of course they're going to require inane changes in just about everything.
I'm curious how "Zatch" comes from "Gash." I mean, maybe if I squint a bit, then... no, no. It still's a bit of a stretch. Since when does a "Z" sound like a "G"? Ah, nevermind - I don't care anyway.
Zatch Bell is different, so I wouldn't imagine everybody'd take to it; but it's weird enough to keep me watching, at least.

I say it's stupid to give EVERYTHING a perverted double meaning. I thought gash was supposed to be a bloody wound as well.
This series sounds pretty kickin'. I'll definetly be watching.

It's more likely they'll just put shorts on him, like the digital(not sure if we ever really confirmed this or not) shorts on Lupin in the nude beach episode.

The shorts were in the Japanese episode as well.
