That was a stupid edit, considering that this cartoon was aired late at night when only adults were watching. And besides, in this case, an ass means a stupid person (that's what you'll find in the dictionary other than it being a donkey).

"Tale Of Two Mice" uses the word "Jackass", and it's left in! I guess that's just a WB cut like the "Dripalong Daffy" version...because the earlier cartoon had been in the Turner Co. rotation for a long time before that.

Is jackass really a curse word? I don't think it is, and I've seen some kid shows that used that word. Jackass really just means donkey. It's the last 3 letters people consider bad.

Well, it can also mean the posterior. I remember one of the 1st Bonanza eps I ever saw --- the one with the "leprechauns" --- when people were looking for them one threw a hand net & shouted "I got one! I got one!" On the other end of the net, 'nother feller said, "You lop-eared jackass; it's ME you got!" I repeated that phrase; Dad wasn't amused.
