View Full Version : "WWE No Mercy" Prediction Thread

Kippy
10-03-2004, 12:04 AM
I don't know if The Penguin is going to show up tonight or not, but it's getting late so I decided to put up the prediction thread myself. No Mercy is less than 24 hours away, so make your picks now!

Predictions must be made prior to the start of the event Sunday, which is at 8 p.m. EDT. Posts cannot be edited after that time.

If you refuse to pick on principle, I have no clue who you want, or you just plain miss it; you will get it wrong. As of Saturday, No Mercy had 7 scheduled matches and everyone's total will be out of 7. If say, you don't pick a winner in the... hey, there aren't any "sports entertainment" matches scheduled again... you will get it wrong. Make sense? Good.

WWE Championship - Last Ride Match
Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker

U.S. Championship - Best of 5 Series
Champion Booker T vs. John Cena

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero

WWE Tag Team Championship
Champions Kenzo Suzuki & René Duprée vs. Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio

Paul London vs. Billy Kidman

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio

Please remember this thread encompasses anything to do with predictions. Should you feel the need to tally up your score, "challenge" people or tell the story of the "match for the championship" that is going to fit in here, not the talkback thread for the event which will of course be posted Sunday.

This is either booking on the fly at its worst, or they're planning something for Nunzio. For some reason I'm going with the second.

WWE Championship
Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker (I say JNL, just because I think that Heidenreich will make an interference, thus making UT's Survivor Series match.)

U.S. Championship - Best of 5 Series
Champion Booker T vs. John Cena
(I think Cena actually, just because Booker was fighting for thw WWE Championship in recent house-shows.)

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show
(I am going to say "Show" just because they are not going to let him lose this early back)

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero
(Eddie of course, unless Anlge interferes which could be a possibility)

WWE Tag Team Championship
Champions Kenzo Suzuki & René Duprée vs. Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio (I say FrenchJap wins, just because RVD + Rey Mysterio are not)

Paul London vs. Billy Kidman (I say Billy here, but Paul is an awesome)

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio (Spike, I don' think that Nunzio will get the title in the near-future.)

I think this was be Crap-Per-View in my opinion. Take a look at the main event!

MAIN EVENT IMO!
Paul London vs. Billy Kidman
Winner: Paul London (Im a huge Paul London fan and I have been looking forward to this match for quite some time now. This should easily be the best match on the card especially considering that Smackdowns two top talents (Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle) are in matches against talentless monsters).

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio
Winner: Spike

My predictations

I don't really care either one anymore but I would say the Undertaker will probably win.

Champion Booker T vs. John Cena
Winner: Booker T

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show
Winner: Kurt Angle

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero
Winner: Eddie Guerrero

WWE Tag Team Championship

Winner: Paul London

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio

Kippy

WWE Championship
Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker

WINNER: JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD. Maybe somebody will be so kind as to stuff both of these guys in the back of the hearse. Undertaker has already destroyed the Ministry and last week he took care of Orlando, so I say that JBL's going to win this match, probably due to some outside interference.

U.S. Championship - Best of 5 Series
Champion Booker T vs. John Cena

WINNER: BOOKER T. There's no reason for Cena to win this one. Booker's been wrestling almost every week whereas Cena has just been rapping. There are a lot more storyline options if Booker's the champ, so I think that he will be the one to become the Undisputed United States Champion.

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show

WINNER: BIG SHOW. It's Big Show's first big match, he's angry, and he's out for revenge. I'd say that he's going to win this one.

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero

WINNER: EDDIE GUERRERO. Eddie is more than due for a win on pay-per-view. Luther doesn't have to win to have his ranking on the show rise. Latino Heat is going to win this one.

WWE Tag Team Championship
Champions Kenzo Suzuki & René Duprée vs. Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio

WINNER: KENZO SUZUKI & RENÉ DUPRÉE. RVD and Mysterio are much better wrestlers than Suzuki and Duprée, but I'm picking the current champs to retain their gold. The tag team division could really use some stability.

Paul London vs. Billy Kidman

WINNER: PAUL LONDON. Unless they plan on doing a rematch at Survivor Series, London should be the one going over tonight. So far this has been a good feud, as both guys are finally being featured on SmackDown! and both kind of have personalities now. These guys could put on a great match if they're given enough time.

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio

WINNER: SPIKE DUDLEY. Nunzio could probably be a good Cruiserweight Champion, but now is not his time. He's been a Velocity regular up until last week and Spike needs the belt a little longer for his current gimmick to work. The Boss will retain his belt.

Zero Signal

No Mercy time. Hopefully this month I can do a little better.

WWE Tag Team Championship
Champions Kenzo Suzuki & René Duprée vs. Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio
Boy, they really didn't give this one much build. Not quite sure on this match. RVD is never going to get a push, Mysterio is just kinda there, and Dupree is really treading water. But all in all, I get the feeling that there's more of a chance for RVD or Mysterio in singles action. WINNERS: DUPREE & SUZUKI

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio
More matches with no build. Nunzio and FBI in general have been on roll lately, but I think it's all for nothing here. WINNER: SPIKE DUDLEY

Paul London vs. Billy Kidman
Oh man, the match I've been waiting for. I hope they give this plenty of time so London can show his stuff. I also get the impression that this is just the beginning of the feud, and hopefully London can win the Cruiserweight Title to defend at Survivor Series. Fanatsy booking, I know, but it could happen. I think Kidman takes this one, and the feud has legs. But if Chavo pops back up and helps Kidman win I'll be pissed. WINNER: BILLY KIDMAN

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero
Another match I'm not quite sure on. Usually I'd go with Eddie as a lock, but all the backstage goings-on suggest that Eddie really needs a break. A huge beatdown by Luther can provide that time off the road. On the other hand, Eddie's had a long string of losses on both PPV and Smackdown. This is probably his revenge match, and the beating can come after the match (with Jindrak as well). WINNER: EDDIE GUERRERO

U.S. Championship - Best of 5 Series
Champion Booker T vs. John Cena
Boring. This whole series has been less than inspiring, and thank God it's ending. Booker has this one, and Cena can leave to go make his little Marine movie. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, and please come back not so stale and boring. WINNER: BOOKER T

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show
Tough one here. I don't remember the last person Angle lost to, so it's kinda hard to bet against him. But this is the big return match for Show, so he needs this first win back to carry him strongly into Survivor Series. Might be a DQ, but I think Angle's losing here. WINNER: BIG SHOW

WWE Championship
Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker
Ugh. A rematch to a terrible Summerslam match. A feud built on nothing. This better be the blowoff match, I can't take this crap another month. JBL should take this one, since it's about that time of year Undertaker disappears so he can make a "miraculous" return in time for Wrestlemania. Guess working that 3 shows a month really takes it's toll when you're that old. Maybe he can find a better way to get over next time. WINNER: JBL

***Even though we don't get points for it, I got Rico & Charlie Haas w/Miss Jackie over the Dudleys and Dawn Marie***

Other than a horrible main event, the show looks good. I need some wins here, for the prediction contest and my Fantasy League :D

I don't know if The Penguin is going to show up tonight or not, but it's getting late so I decided to put up the prediction thread myself. No Mercy is less than 24 hours away, so make your picks now!1,001 apologises. I had a wedding on Saturday and realized at the dance I hadn't posted this yet (that's what happens you don't bring a date—you think).

I'm afraid I'm going to do horribly because I am still a month behind on SmackDown! I  hate Mediacom!

WWE Championship - Last Ride Match
Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker
JBL I see no reason for Undertaker to become the Champion and this should make Bradshaw look stronger even if he wins in a weak way.

U.S. Championship - Best of 5 Series
Champion Booker T vs. John Cena
Booker Cena's going to go do that movie, right?

Kurt Angle vs. Big Show
Show Seems to me that since the big guy just came back he should win the match.

Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Why would Luther win?

WWE Tag Team Championship
Champions Kenzo Suzuki & René Duprée vs. Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio
Suzuki & Duprée This looks to me to be a filler type match to give the evil foreigners someone to face.

Paul London vs. Billy Kidman
Man, the last SD! I watched was when they lost the titles. I don't even know who the face is (don't tell me). Ummm... Kidman

Cruiserweight Championship
Champion Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio
Spike I see no reason for the little Dudley to lose.

Thanks once again!

The Intercontinental Title Champion is decided by a calculating who has the highest percentage of correct guesses over the three most recent pay-per-views. The Heavyweight Title score awards points for correct guesses (no penalty for wrong guesses) for the six most recent pay-per-views. The points system for the heavyweight title is weighted such that more recent pay-per-views are worth more points. Click here (http://www.rit.edu/%7Emdk8894/toonzone/nomercy04.xls) to view the spreadsheet used to make these calculations. Please, please check my work!

As an aside, I was wondering exactly how are we going to score Taboo Tuesday? From what I've read online, the people that the champions have to face won't be revealed until the start of the PPV. Is that right? How do we pick winners if we don't know the exact match?
