View Full Version : Warner Bros. doing new Ninja Turtles series

Vin

For those who have not checked out the newspage yet, please do so. Warner Bros. Animation are closing on a deal to work on the new "Ninja Turtles" cel-animated series.

I just hope some of the crew from "Batman: The Animated Series" etc. are involved. As long as it is not corny like recent efforts from WBA like "Static Shock!" and "The Zeta Project," and more mature like "Justice League," then Turtle fans are in for a great series. Now, if Cartoon Network would pick up this series, then I know it will turn out alright.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I just hope it dosn't end at the usual syndication number for cartoons, wich if memory serves, ends at 60 or so. If WB does it right, this could go on as long as the original did, wich was almost ten years. Assuming the fanbase is still there..

Although I still hope it airs on Cartoon Network. Imagine an action hero lineup on saturday, consisting of Justice League, Samurai Jack, and TMNT :)..

Of course Warner would animate it. AOL Time Warner also owns New Line Cinema, who distributed the Turtles movies. Synergy at its finest, I tell you.

Sincerely,

I like the sound of this.

Let's just hope the persons in charge give proper respect to both the Turtle's previous TV legacy and their grittier comic-book origins.

PINKY: HAHAHA! Oooh, this is going to be so *neeeat*. Donatello was my *favorite*!

BRAIN: How could you tell? All four of those reptilian merchandising mills had no distinct personalities *I* could detect....

PINKY: Well, Donatello was all smart, and made lots of inventions! Oooh, ooh, and I liked that brain enemy they had!

BRAIN: (Raising an eyebrow) "Brain"?

PINKY: Oh, yes, it was this brain-like creature who'd use giant mechanical suits to walk like a normal human, and who kept scheming futilely to take over the *world*! (Pauses) Gee, sounds a lot like---

BRAIN: (Clasps Pinky's mouth shut) Don't finish that "thought", Pinky. (Muttering) First that "Inspector Gadget" dog....then a huge stream of short and/or fur-covered characters trying to usurp my rightful world domination quest ranging from that "Dilbert" dog to that wretched little brat Stewie Griffin...and now, *this*.....

I still haven't heard Brain's reaction to that Hector Con Carne whatever-it-is-now. And iirc you could tell which turtle was which by the headband color. And the personality, Raphael being the one with the attitude among them. This from someone who's never watched an ep of TMNT.

Little in-joke: Pinky's favorite turtle would probably be Raphael, since Rob Paulsen did both voices.
I'm still waiting to see what Brain makes of Spongebob Squarepants's Plankton, myself.

Wow, it's going to be rather weird seeing a new TMNT series, but I'm sure I'm going to watch it anyway. I was completely obsessed with the original, that I just have to watch anything new out of shear curiosity.

Then here's a short course in TMNT Personalities, Brain:

Leonardo, the leader and stratagist, is the Responsible Older Brother type.

Michaelangelo is happy-go-lucky and fun-loving.

Donatello is the smart-but-agreeable inventor & computer expert.

Raphael underwent the biggest personality overhaul in the translation to moving image: in the comics he was dangerously angry and unstable, but on TV he's just a sarcastic wise-cracker.

BRAIN: Very well, then....I stand corrected regarding their personalities, though my opinion of the show's merits remain unchanged...especially factoring in that "living brain" character you mentioned as yet another individual attempting to take over the world.

PINKY: Um, I guess you don't want to hear about the Ultra-Humanite, then....since he's going to be on that JLA cartoon-thingy and all....he's this giant albino ape with a *really* big head and the transplanted brain of a scientist who wants to, well, you know.... (shows Brain a picture from some JLA promotional flyer)

BRAIN: (Looks at U-H's picture) A giant, super-intelligent *albino ape* attempting to take over the world...feh. I suppose that simian Mojo Jojo wasn't enough for the people at Cartoon Network....

PINKY: Oooooh, *Mojooooo....* are we going to meet him sometime, Brain?

BRAIN: Given our fanfic outings of late have pitted us in everything from dealing with a hyperintelligent toddler that nearly ruined our reputations through the most vilest means, to a group of "Team Rocket" wannabes, I suppose it'll only be a matter of time before *that* happens....though I don't know whether to dread the thought or appreciate the exposure...

:-)

Who knew the difference between the Turtles' personalities, as well...

Oooooh, I kinna like that idea! We've already got somebody here (intials DB) who can write Mojospeak as well as the actual PPG writers.

Did you have any particular plot in mind, Brainatra?

Not really....though I suppose Mojo could wind up teaming up with some foe of Brain's (Stewie Griffin?) in an effort by both to achieve some mutual goal/destroy their enemies, necessitating Brain to (against his will) recruit the aid of the PPG's....wacky hijinks (and the girls dealing with someone who wants to take over the world but is a *good* guy/Pinky maybe comparing the girls to Supergirl/Superboy/Superman since they have similar powers/Brain annoyed by this whole thing/etc.) ensue. Another suggestion: Mojo (by himself) is interfering with some key point of Brain's latest plan (or threatens the plan outright in some way), necessitating a trip to Townsville for the lab mice...

I'd have thrown in Mojo into some story earlier, admittedly, except that not having seen enough PPG episodes, not sure I'd do him any justice at all (or mischaracterize him)...

Ninja Turtles!! New Season!!! Produced at Warner Bros!!! This will be better than that Saban's Ninja Turtles series. Saban had screwed it up some how. Are they still going to have a female Ninja Turtle, like Saban's version?

Nope, no female.

Hmmm...possible things to raise in such a crossover fanfic:

- Seeing Brain's reaction to the news that the girls let Mojo Jojo go in that one fanfic story because they "need a villain to fight to keep up their ratings" or somesuch :-)

- Pinky pointing out how Mojo and Brain seem similar to each other (and Brain dissenting, of course).

- Pinky noting how fun-fun silly-willy the Girls' superpowers are, while Brain notes they're no different than the abilities they'd seen Superman/Superboy exhibit (ormaybe: BRAIN: Artificial belt-sized anti-gravity generators and a muscular enhancement skeleton of some sort to simulate flight and super-strength, one hypervelocity suit for superspeed, a means of compressing my catalytic immobilizer formula to portable form to simulate freeze breath capabilities, and I'm sure I could come close to duplicating those females' superpowers through technological means.... BILLIE: Gee, Eggy, if it's *that* easy and you wanted to take over the world with little Kal-El once, why didn't you try doing it yourself instead of relying on *him*? BRAIN: (Startled looking at the suggestion/at the idea not having occurred to him) Er...well, um....I suppose such technology isn't too, well....feasible for my goals. BILLIE: Uh-huh.... BRAIN: Well, um, besides, my current talents and abilities are best applied elsewhere at this point... PINKY: Like your talent of being able to use your tail as a lock pick? HAHAHAHA! BRAIN: (Flatly) *Yes*, Pinky, I suppose so...)

- Sidebit with Billie (and maybe Brain) tinkering in the Professor's lab (BILLIE: Fusion reactor....flux stabilizer....multispatial processing unit... (shrugs) Eh. Nothin' I haven't seen before...or already built in my spare time between commercials breaks while watching "Jeopardy!".... BRAIN: Never mind that.... the robotics advances that the Professor's done may be of aid in our goal! [Looks at a giant diagram of that giant robot he built to protect the girls in one episode])

- PINKY: Wonder why such a *biiiiig* city is called "Townsville", Brain? And why does Mojo Jojo have an exposed brain that he has to cover with that turban-thingy, POIT?

As for a plot, um, still not sure (besides the two ideas I listed)...

Fortunately for you, Mojo is quite a versatile character. He can be truly evil (as in the 'Rowdyruff Boys' ep, where he was out to destroy everything), or buffonish (as in 'Child Fearing' where he only wanted to use his babysitting authority to make the Girls assist his conquest schemes, but couldn't even get them to turn the TV down), or even somewhat sympathetic (as in 'Meet The BeatAlls', where we learn he's also looking for love.) Personally, I prefer to write about the sympathetic version; bad-to-the-core villains are a dime a dozen, ambivalent ones are more interesting.

> PINKY: ...And why does Mojo Jojo have an exposed brain that he has to cover with that turban-thingy, POIT? <

According to the ep 'Mr. Mojo's Rising', when he was an ordinary chimp working as Prof Utonium's lab assistant, Mojo - or just Jojo, as he was called then- had a normal head and IQ. The chemical blast produced at the Girl's creation also affected Jojo; it gave him hyperintelligence & enlarged his brain to a size that wouldn't fit in his skull, so he had to start wearing the protective dome. His road to Supervillainry was originally motivated by a particularly intense case of sibling rivalry- once Prof aquired his three 'perfect little Girls', he lost interest in his pet. Depending on whose version of the story you believe, Mojo either left 'cause he felt neglected, or was thrown out due to his rambunctous behavior.

It's never been established where he picked up his redundant speaking pattern, so feel free to speculate.

Very well, then.....

<answer snipped>

Ah, I recall seeing this one....thanks for the reminder...

>>It's never been established where he picked up his redundant speaking pattern, so feel free to speculate.

Have to think about that one.... :-)

PINKY: Oooh, good answers...but what's the deal with that talking dog?

BRAIN: I don't know, Pinky....I guess the existence of three superpowered 5-year-olds and an evil simian alone somehow *wasn't* enough to sell the Cartoon Network execs on the show...

PINKY: OK, Brain...POIT! But one more question: um....why *does* Mojo Jojo want to steal the Powerpuff Girls' pop-tart sprinkles?

BRAIN: Pinky, there are some questions probably best left unanswered....though as far as I'm concerned, he can have all the sprinkles he wants. The last thing I need in the morning is some artificially -flavored insulin attack....I'll stick with my bran muffins and coffee.

PINKY: OK, Brain....that means more yummy multi-colored poptarts for me! HAHAHAHA!

BRAIN: (Shakes his head) I think you need less FD&C red #40 in your diet, Pinky....

I'm guessing that leaving Mona Lisa (the girl turtle) out is a good thing. Though I don't actually recall seeing any episodes that she was in, I do vaguely remember some people saying she had very little personality and didn't add much to the show. Maybe too many turtles spoiled the soup? (dodges flying objects - okay, okay, bad joke, I know!) 'Course, there's always the remote possibility she might show up in later episodes...who knows?

I kinda liked the old Saban series (and even the first live-action movie), but I'm much more interested in seeing this new, more serious version, especially since I've never read the comic books. If CN picks up this series (which they should, they'd be crazy to let it go willingly!) then hopefully we'll be in for a real treat.

Speaking of which, I've edited mine too. Now let the discussion of TMNT and/or PPG/PatB crossovers continue!

Speaking of the latter, thought of one idea for a possible plot to such a thing:

For several weeks, Pinky, Billie and the Brain notice a series of items disappearing from ACME Labs in New York City (various blueprints of Brain's past inventions/schemes, various technological devices and inventions of Brain's, etc.). Similarly, in Townsville, the Professor notices several similar missing items from his lab (and footage of the security cameras in both places only reveal some sort of mysterious, shadowed figure). Putting the mystery of the thefts on hold for the time being, Brain decides to go through with his latest plan for global conquest, the execution of which involves making a trip from New York City to none other than the city of Townsville. Shortly after arriving, however, the mice quickly have a run-in with the city's superheroic protectors, as they all swiftly discover the culprit behind the dual-lab thefts, the missing devices being employed for less-than-noble purposes by the culprit, and the greater scheme said culprit has in store. Proposed main characters: Pinky, Billie, the Brain, the Powerpuff Girls, Prof. Utonium, Mojo Jojo. Settings: ACME Labs in New York City (early portion of the story), various locations in Townsville (for the majority of the story post-mice-leaving-NYC).
Not sure what Brain's plan would be yet (considered a reuse of the plan from that dead-in-the-water outer-space story, with Brain hawking free disks for his own ISP)...

Brainatra:

Actually, a plan came to mind last night while watching an abyssmal foreign film, The Idiots, at one-thirty in the morning. Brain decides to make a foreign film with himself, Pinky, and Billie as German-Swedish actors. "Foreign movies are incomprehensible, pretentious two- or three-hour celluloid monstrosities that everyone despises," he reasons, "yet everyone watches because it makes them appear intelligent, popular, and desirable to the opposite sex." Brain gives Billie carte blanche on writing the script ("The more senseless and inane the better. People will think our drivel is 'artistic' and 'avant-guarde'!"), which will be spoken in a mangled Germano-Nordic dialect with innocuous subtitles...yet every third sentence is actually an English phrase spoken backwards, like "Brain is your leader" or "Bow down to the Brain for he is to be worshipped". The backwards phrases will sublimininally enter the mind of the viewer and hypnotize them into embracing Brain as their sovereign.
Natch, Billie will be hasty to point out that Brain's tried using movies twice before, as well as radio, TV, and even musical theater, and failed in all attempts to manipulate the masses via the entertainment media.
Not sure where Mojo or the Girls figure into this, though, or where it all goes worong....

Michealangelo was easily the most annoying character on the CBS animated series, mostly due to his very poor characertization. Leonardo and Donatello were easily my favorite and Raphael was funny, the funniest on the show.
