LOONEY TUNES MOVIE MARATHON
Friday, November 23, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (ET, PT)
Most of the nation will enjoy a day off to indulge in shopping and a huge turkey sandwich or two, but Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and other cartoon stars will settle in for a full day's work during the Looney Tunes Movie Marathon on Friday, November 23 from 9 a.m-5 p.m. Following is a description of the four Looney Tunes features that Cartoon Network will present.
- 9 a.m.: Daffy Duck's Quackbusters (TV-G)-Upon the death of J.B. Cubish, Daffy Duck inherits a Daffy million dollars, which he, Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig use to start a ghost-busting business. Their sole purpose: destroy the ghost of Cubish, Daffy's benefactor. The film features a number of classic Looney Tunes, such as "Hyde And Go Tweet," "The Abominable Snow Rabbit" and "Transylvania 6-500," as well as the first new cartoon Warner Bros. had produced in decades: "The Duxorcist." Daffy Duck's Quackbusters is a 1988 Warner Bros. production.
- 11 a.m.: Friz Freleng's Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie (TV-G)-This 1981 Warner Bros. compilation film is made up of three acts. Act One: Yosemite Sam raises hell with the devil in a remake of the 1963 short Devil's Feud Cake. Act Two: Bugs Bunny outwits inept gangsters Rocky and Mugsy who hold Tweety hostage. Act Three: Bugs acts as host for a zany parody of Hollywood awards programs.
- 1 p.m.: Daffy Duck's Movie: Fantastic Island (TV-G)-In this 1983 Warner Bros. film, Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales have been shipwrecked on a desert island for a long time. They find Yosemite Sam's treasure map, but instead of treasure, they dig up a wishing well that transforms the island into a spoof of Fantasy Island. Daffy and Speedy welcome visitors whose fantasies come true via footage from classic cartoons. Daffy Duck's Movie: Fantastic Island includes clips from Buccaneer Bunny, Stupor Duck, Greedy for Tweety and From Hare to Heir.
- 3 p.m.: Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales (TV-G)-Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny are rival book salesmen for Rambling House Publishers in this 1982 feature length compilation from Warner Bros. They travel the world finding new places to sell their wares. In the Arabian desert, Bugs encounters Sultan (Yosemite) Sam and his bratty little son Prince Abadaba. Sam forces Bugs to read him stories from books. The film features several classic titles, including Ali Baba Bunny, Apes of Wrath, Bewitched Bunny, Cracked Quack, Goldimouse and the Three Cats, Mexican Boarders, One Froggy Evening, Pied Piper of Guadalupe, Red Riding Hoodwinked, Tweety and the Beanstalk and Wise Quackers.
ToonHeads
Sunday, Nov. 25 at 9 PM (ET, PT)
Two half-hour episodes of Cartoon Network's acclaimed cartoon documentary series....
- "Moon Toons": Decades before Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the lunar surface, animated characters were making regular trips to the Moon. "Moon Toons" takes a look at the early animated explorers of the galaxy, including Bugs Bunny as the first test rabbit launched in outer space in a 1948 cartoon. Other features shorts include "Little Buck Cheeser," which tells the story of a group of mice that build a space ship so they can feast on the Moon's cheesy surface, and "The Cat that Hated People," about a cat seeking solitude in space.
- "The Great Controversy": In one single year, two cartoons were released that would become animated classics, "Rhapsody Rabbit" and "The Cat Concerto." Both featured tuxedoed stars, Bugs Bunny and Tom the Cat, respectively, playing Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2 while being tormented by an elusive mouse. Did Hanna and Barbera steal the idea from Warner Bros. - or was it the other way around? Perhaps it was just a strange coincidence. In any case there was only one Academy Award available for an animated short in 1946, and it was claimed by MGM's "The Cat Concerto."
